I recently lost me job and was presented with the opportunity to move to Miami Florida. I'll be moving with my wife and 2 young girls. I'd like to know what to expect. I currently live in Manhattan NYC.

I would like some insight from any Florida members

i dont live in Florida but i wish i did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they have GREAT chameleon weather down there!!!!!!!!!
it would be sooooooo hard not to take advantage of the opportunity!!!!!!!
JMHO------ lisa :)

Half of the people down here moved from NY so you should feel right at home! The other half are Hispanic or other internationals, so again, not super different from NYC! lol

I moved to South Miami about 15 years ago and am very familiar with this city. I can't say that I love it, I prefer to live somewhere less enormous and less populated but Miami might be perfect for you. You definitely have shops, billions of places to eat from all over the world, really nice parks and beaches. It depends on what area you're thinking of moving to, and I can tell you more.

I'm definitely a fan of the Florida weather! Sure it gets hot in summer, but we're in late December and we had lunch outside in the mid 70's. You can't beat that!

I think i'm just trying to "get my foot in the door" then acess exactly where i want to eventually settle. I was looking at a few condos in Boynton and one in Hollywood Beach. Been also looking into the area for work and schools for the kids.

I live about 10 minutes from Boynton Beach! Your chams will LOVE it here I can tell you that!!! The summers suck big time but you get used to it-just hot and humid, hot and humid. The winters are great though!!!

Moving to Fla?

Try Pembroke pines. You can thank me later. Its a good central location to Miami/Sobe and Ft Lauderdale.

Wow Jon!! Sorry about your job, I didn't know. Good luck on the move and new opportunity. I have nothing to add about FL but seems like a good move for a young family.

Btw I have always wondered...what do you do?

My husband and I moved to Florida 11 years ago and love it! Sure, the summers are hot and humid, but they can get that way up north too, and there's always air conditioning! I had a jacket on yesterday when it was 66 degrees - once you get acclimated get used to people laughing at you for things like that. I've been to Ft. Lauderdale and Dania Beach to go diving, but have never lived there, so I'll leave it to the East Coasters to tell you where to live. Good luck, and hopefully we can count you amongst our transplants living down here! :D
