black spots on my Veiled

Hey guys,
My veiled Victor has been having these black spots show up on his face and head for the past couple weeks. He also has what looks like to be a scrape or something on his chin. He is acting normal and looks normal besides these spots from what I can tell and is still walking/climbing well. Can you please take a look and tell me what may be going on with my man Vic?

Here is his info:
Male Veiled, approximately 7 maybe 8 months old, approximately a foot long
Stable diet of crickets (even though he doesn't eat them very much anymore unless he has to, think he's getting tired of them) and have been giving him superworms as well. Given water three times a day via spray bottle.
Give him a vitamin/minerals powder on crickets or worms twice a week, and calcium with d3 powder on crickets or worms twice a week.
Cage is 18x18x36 reptibreeze, I have a uvb light, a 75 watt basking light for the day and 75 watt red light for night.

I have included 5 pictures... the first two are just normal pics of him, the next three are pics of the black areas. Need any more info or a pic of his cage then let me know.

Thank you so much

A few things come to my mind when I see those pictures..

-bruises: which will eventually go away within a few days.
-shed: the lighting might make it appear darker from the photo

But it doesn't look too much like a burn.

I did notice it looks like its swelling. It might just be a bruise. Keep an eye on it. If it gets bigger, it may be a fungal or bacterial infection. If it is, you need to take him to the vet.

swelling.... consult your vet or do more research online. Curious on the looks of the cage? Your veiled a male? F?

Good Luck

That is a classic Male Veiled.
The Darker coloration definitely looks like bruising, directly under the chin it looks as a abrasion of some sort, that could be leading to the bruising, much like when you bump your arm, the surrounding tissues swell up and discolor. He may have experienced a fall and clocked his jaw, or if you free range your feeders (crickets etc) they possibly could be targeting the soft tissues and feeding on your little guy while sleeping. Just a few ideas for you to think about.

If you can, make sure there is no excessive build up of saliva or should i say goop, in his mouth, if he gapes at you in defense its a good opportunity to see in there. You want to make sure the abrasion on the front of his bottom jaw doesn't lead to a infection, if available, get your boy some natural sunlight, unfiltered, it will help with the all around healing and health.. Good Luck and keep us posted

Sorry to keep adding, But from the looks of the many different abrasions, i would highly suggest the feeders are feeding on him, causing irritation and inflamed tissues. Until his appetite returns. I suggest cup feeding, or at least until you notice him snatching crickets with enthusiasm again.

thx for the great Veiled link. How soon do the spurrs appear? I keep praying mine is a male.... yet still no spurrs....

Early early, often before you can take them home or purchase them etc.. if your veiled doesn't have tarsal spurs yet, chances are he's a she.

yea its looking that way.... males have so much more color to offer. plus lower maintence. I fear egg laying season

Plenty of calcium intake, healthy diet and a pre setup laying bin with some play sand, and cablammo ...your in business :D:D:D

And take a look at some of the Forum members Female's, Jannb and her little love Camille are a great example. Awesome either way, also make sure to check out Jannb's (blog on how to care for female Veileds) great stuff

Yes tons of good info here. Still have my 16x 16 x 20 tank.. needing to upsize. Looking to get a 24 x 24 x 36. Talking vitamins, I give Cal NO D3 every day up until last few days. "She" has been getting small white deposits around her one nostril. So I have not added calcium to the food for at least 3 or 4 days now. Thinking she had to much. And heck yea I got all the right vitamins.

If you post up a picture of its back legs and ask, you'll know for 99% sure pretty quickly......

Your little girl has salt deposits by her nose not calcium. This is a normal process, they have glands there to excrete the excess. So please keep the supplement schedule.

Calcium no D3 daily
Calcium with D3 2 times a month
Vitamins 2 times a month no calcium these days.

Thanks!! I have been wondering about the salt deposit on the nose.....guess i will begin to re add vitamins again.

The sore on the chin and greyish areas directly around it.. my guess is fungus or bacterial infection take to a vet.

can the cham physically reach the heat lights from within the cage or free range?
