Breeding hornworms!

I now have 3 worms that are about to pupate, slowly but surely. My goal is to have a batch of eggs after they turn to moths. Question is, how long does it take them to do their thing and then lay eggs? Will they be easy to see(probably a dumb question) but I really would be exstatic to raise my own worms for Chloe. I've been reading posts on here and watching YouTube videos trying to get an idea. Fingers crossed I will have success!!

That blog is awesome thanks so much for sharing! I hadn't come across that one yet. So glad I read it as I had no idea moths could "fling dirt everywhere and spray everywhere" ewww. Perhaps it may be best to tackle this feat at a later date lol! Sheesh, that's a lot to raise some hornworms.... And props to those who do it successfully!

U can also try the silkworm,or dubia roach they are much easier.
I almost ordered some dubias but the word !roach! kept playing over and over in my mind. Worms are no big deal, I've played with those since I was a kid. One of these days I will muster up the courage to order some dubias, I'm sure Chloe would appreciate it. In the meantime, I have a batch of Phoenix worms on the way!

Everyone think roaches are dirty, but these dubia dont even have a strong smell like the crickets do,they are so clean n easy to keep than the cricket, phoenix worm are great as long u have a smaller cham, since they are not that big for the bigger cham to chew with, but great source for calcium.

Horns are hard from what I gather. I wish you lots of luck and be sure to let us know how it works out and any tips :).

Dubias are not that bad. It messed with me a bit at first as well, but after handling them starting with small ones and working up. It is not that bad, just a mental thing its easy to get past just take your time.

Thanks! Yeah after reading more about hornworms I've found they are quite a bit to keep up with. I'm trying to talk myself into dubias for Chloe's sake haha! So far she's good with crickets, superworms and hornworms. Just yesterday she finally ate some strawberry. She got one piece then went back and ate the rest. Made me happy! I have them growing on my balcony so it's perfect...

Were you just asking about feeding strawberry on C.C.USA the other day?

I've been searching through posts about them lately and commented a few times in other posts. From what I've read one maybe once a week is ok? I get maybe 1-2 a week from my plant, so instead of eating them myself I'll be feeding them to her! I also have some sweet peppers, red and green, that will likely go to feeders instead of myself o_O
