anyone help!!
i have been trying to breed my veiled chameleons, paired them up about 2 weeks ago the female didnt want to know, she ran away and every time the male went near she hissed and was aggressive towards him with he mouth wide open,
i tried again last Monday she was totally calm the mating took place,
but how will i know if she is pregnant, her colours seem to have changed she used to be a bright green all the time now she seems to be a brown colour with brown spots and few brown stripe's most of the time now,
she's eating as normal also just finishing a shed,

any advise anyone??

cheers simon

She's probably going to lay within the next couple weeks so make sure she has a laying bin. I know the females adopt a gravid color after they mate, but I have no expierience with mating so I wouldn't know what falls under the normal category.

there aint no eggs yet,
what i really need to know is how i can tell for definite if she is pregnant,
or should i try pairing them again??

That they mated successfully suggests the next batch of eggs will be fertile. You'll know for sure a couple weeks after you dig up and incubate the eggs

My female becomes much more active moving around in her cage and will become more aggressive. If she stops eatting thats a good sign she is gravid.

ok thanks for the advise
she seems a little more aggressive than normal ill have to keep an eye on her feeding over the next few days!

not sure weather to pair them up again tho??
or just see what happens over the next month or so

if in 3 weeks or so she starts driving you insane with scratching at her cage and moving around all restless, that'll be a great sign she's gonna lay eggs.

I would advise you to put an opaque container of washed playsand in her cage now because a female can lay the first clutch of eggs after the first mating sooner than the normal 30 days.

When it's closed to her laying she should look like a bag of marbles. If your gentle you can even gently palpate her and feel the eggs. After you see it once, you will always be able to tell!

Good Luck!

John
