Breeding wc chams & parasites

Is it possible to breed 2 wc chams, who might have parasites, and pass them to the babies?

Nice response Nhenn

I have some questions for you both. Why not treat them for the parasites first? What is there to gain from breeding sick chameleons? It's my understanding that parasites eat up calcium and females desperately need calcium when they are producing offspring. Males need calcium too I'm just saying females need it even more. Is this correct? I know when my boys had parasites my jackson lost some weight and the vet said the parasites were to blame eating up all his food and calcium.

Julia, you are 100% correct. I would never recommend breeding a chameleon that is known to have parasites as it is a health concern as you stated. Females will pull all their nutrients and calcium from their body to supply the eggs or the developing little ones so it is imperative that the adults be in perfect health to breed.

I was just answering the OP question about passing it along to the young.

Oh I knew you were Nhenn. The first question was for him. I should have clarified. So do parasites pull calcium as well?

I don't know the answer to that. I would assume so as they pull everything else from them but not sure if they would also take calcium or if it would amount to anything if they did pull some. That might be something that Dr. O or Dayna might know.
