Breeding?

My female is getting older and I want to know if. it is worth breeding her? She is almost two years old and I didn’t know if breeding makes their life better or worse

Breeding does take a toll on females and decrease their life expectancy a bit if it is done often. I personally would let her be.
But if breeding was your plan, she is at least old enough to handle being a momma. 😊 You at least want them to have experience in laying before attempting to breed, which it sounds like she is.
I’m no expert by any means at all, just giving info I’ve read.

Is this a Veiled? Panther?
Are you prepared to have many neonates? Have many enclosures to rear?
It is a carpet but i have a female veiled who is abt a year old so i guess that could count. i am preparing to get more enclosures setup but rn i have abt 8 18x18x36 and my adult female is in a medium ds

The question is not will it affect her life, but will her offspring get a descent life?! Breeding is one thing, but finding good homes for them is another. Over flooding the market for a few bucks of profit, can’t be the motivation, because we see here daily how that can end for some chams. Boosting a species that’s becoming threatened, yes! And keeping prices high to protect impulsive buyers, yes! But then you need a professional setup. Otherwise……it’s not worth breeding.

Besides agreeing with @Sonny13 I would be concerned about putting so much stress on your girl’s body and depleting her of her needed resources. Then there is also concern if her body would be able to provide enough to produce healthy babies. I imagine things aren’t much different for older reptile moms than any other creature.

you all did your job 🥹 I think ill just let pookie live her life out. She has had a long and fun life and i think she should live her last few years in the very short carpet chameleon lifetime. I will just fill up the exess cages with cb carpets that someone else had worked hard to breed and not me!🥲

For a Carpet chameleon…its life is short at best…and it’s questionable as to whether she would even get through then egg laying at this point I think. I can not speak from experience on this breed though.

It’s a hard decision to make.

You might like to read these, if you haven’t already….they don’t address the age breeding should stop, etc. though…
