Brev's and breeding crickets in their cages

I had an idea a while ago about placing adult female crix in the brev cage and letting them lay eggs in the substrate. I put them under a cup so they couldn't eat my chams and let them lay eggs for a day or so. Has anyone tried this? I just thought the substrate would be perfect for the crix eggs, but don't know if it will work. Let me know what you think.

I think they are always pregnant if they are adults and in with males.

Yeah your right the mature females will always lay eggs when placed on a moist substrate. The females are the ones with the long black thing hanging out of their butt. Its the probe they stick in the soil to deposit their eggs.

The females have an ovipositor to lay their eggs. It sticks out their behind and looks like a brown needle, they poke it into the soil to deposit the eggs. The boys don't have one and like to chirp nonstop.

Well, from what I understand cricket laying medium must be pretty warm for the crickets to hatch. We place our cricket egg-lying containers on a heating pad after the ladies lay their eggs. They are kept very warm and moist for about a week before they hatch, and then are kept warm and hydrated (with dampened green leaf lettuce, food, and damp paper towels) while they are tiny. It would seem that a pygmy habitat would not be warm enough for the crickets to hatch and/or survive.

I hadn't thought of that. Yes it is cool in the tank right now. Maybe I'll try in the summer when it's warmer. I might have babies by then

read up its already been answered. Theyre always pregnant after maturity if theyve been in bins with males. They breed like crazy.

Ok. I put a cup in my enclosure and I haven't seen them go on it. So hopefully they will lay in there.

I am breeding them in their enclosure, not the cage. I saw one just laying eggs, I'm excited now because hopefully they will still be small enough to feed to baby Pygmys.

Uh-Oh. Please, don't allow the pygmy tank to get too warm for the sake of hatching crickets.

I'm not breeding them in the cage, I'm breeding them in their enclosure, they started laying eggs today so I'm excited.

i dont use any heat pads or anything and i have no prob hatching the baby cricks its keeping them all alive that i have a hard time with if anyone has any advice on keeping them alive pm me. the container i keep them in is in my cham room and its always between 75 and 80 in there i just cant figure out why i keep loosing so many of the babys it is warm in the tub i have them in and i have food in there for them at all time and water cubes so i dont know why i keep loosing them.
