Brown spots

Brown spots have appeared on my veiled chameleon. She used to always be a solid bright green color and now she has brown spots. Any idea why they have appeared? Could she be ready to lay infertile eggs or are the brown spots from stress? Here's a image of what she looks like right now.

Not sure but I've had her for a long time. I got her from a petstore about 8 months ago but I they didn't tell me her age when I got her.

Normal colors. It is the aqua spots coming in along the top of her back that you want to pay attention to. It means she is officially of dating age. However, waiting until she is 12-14 months old is important. Chameleons can develop early, but it doesn't mean she should breed. There are steps you can take to help prevent her from developing unwanted infertile eggs (lower temps and less food). These steps do not always work, but when started in time are effective.

Ok thanks for the information. Not planning on breeding her right now anyways but I'll keep in mind the steps to prevent infertile eggs.

When trying to slowegg production, i keep the thermostat on 77°f. I use a 25w basking bulb with a twin t5 ho hood. Inside the cage is about 80-82°f. Basking spot at 85°f. Offer smaller food totals every other day, keep super hydrated. Don't let her get too thin or too fat. Just healthy looking. Most seem to agree 6 clutches, fertile or infertile, will cause a definite decline in health. I retire my females after 4 clutches. I have seen a healthy female before a clutch, and then a month after laying the clutch, she looked in bad shape. You really need to decide between a pet or breeder. It is difficult to have both. Be prepared for vet visits. MBD can come on quick. Try to get her outside every chance you have. Good luck.
