Hi all,

I got may cage setup for my baby panther chameleon that I am going to get in 2 weeks. I got the Zoo Med 100 watt Powersun UVB heat bulb that puts out warmth and UVB. It was recommended to me by the guy at the reptile store. I also purchased the fixture it goes into. Does anyone here use that bulb?

Thanks :)

Tbh I would use a seperate uv light and heat bulb. a 60 watt hosehold spotlight in a reflector dome will be fine. I would then get a seperate tube uv bulb. I always go with 10.0 but others will say 5.0.

bulbs

I've been using an exoterra solar glo that puts out uvb and heat for my veiled cham for about 6 months with no problems to the cham. That brand is very delicate. I just purchased a zoomed 160W from Light Your Reptiles because they have a 1 year "rough" warranty. I'm also upgrading to the Jungle Dawn LED spotlight from LYR and my panther loves the light. Will be switching him to the zoo med light as soon as it arrives. Less clutter, less wires.

I asked the breeder I am getting my panther from about the bulb and she was highly against this bulb. So back to the store we go to get the correct lighting setup. So we are going to try and sell all the stuff we got on Craigslist.

mucury vapours i use on my males and female get the two bulb system they are a little hotter but the uvb output is great the powersun is not that great but the exxo terra is the one i use now i get a longer life from exxo terra and uvb travelels a farther distance from mercury bulbs too but they are delicate and run a lot hotter but they are usefull fo large enclosures and free range aswell jmo

There may or may not be better bulb arrangements (personally I use mercury vapor on all of my sub-adult male panthers), but to be highly against this bulb is ridiculous. It is a very good bulb for the right application in the right environment. And I will vouch for the many veterinary studies that I've read and conferences that I've been to.

Just my 2c.

(i agree)
thank you the murcury vapour are a great bulb imo aswell i use them on all my males (adult)

Yeah I use the Powersun for my panthers free range and the tube bulb in his enclosure. The 100w one doesn't seem that hot though. I find that you have to put it quite close.

I myself am using the mercury bulb because the breeder I got a panther baby from was, but I am also using UVB floresents on the other 2 baby panthers. More of an experiment I guess, to see what type of bulbs I will use on future cages. Looking for color, activity, growth, etc...
