Is 50w too low for a bulb? The only kind they have at our petsmart that aren't odd colored are kinda smaller 50w and 75w bulbs I want a normal sized 60w basking bulb Darnit!

For the heat light and not UV? You don't have to buy from the reptile stores, any normal incandescent bulb will do, and just find the wattage that works for you, your cage, and your temps.

You can just use a regular household incandescent light bulb. That seems to be what most people here on the forums use.

So its okay if the basking bulb doesn't have UVB? Or do all light bulbs lol? My reptisun has UVB is that enough?

I use a lot of 40 watts and 60's, It all depends on your temps so we can't really tell you what size wattages to use. Just by saying so.

A 10.0 can be used above the mesh as the mesh blocks out alot of uv. i use a 12% d3+ which gives out about 100-200% more uv than a 5.0 above the mesh.

Many people go by what is posted above e.g 5.0 is for rainforest species. Uv lights shouldnt go like this now. It depends on cage type, if the uv is above anything and how well decorated the cage is. Gone are the days where a certain animal has to have a certain uv light strength. The joys of new technology!

Thank you! This is very true. It is less what type of animal the bulb is for, and more a reflection of how far down into the cage you want a certain amount of UVB strength, whether or not the animal is one that would benefit from higher amounts of UVB exposure, and/or how much visible light you want out of the bulb.

I use 10.0 just because of this. The mesh cage and decorations can block a good amount of the UV and especially since some of my females like to hang out under the plants, I want to make sure they get some UV.
