butterworm storing

how long do you think they'll generally keep at around room temp? I don't know if I'll be able to store them in the fridge, so I might just have to feed them off quickly, i'm sure they're no where near as hardy as superworms.

also, that bedding leaves them covered in "sawdust", is that a problem for the cham? i'm sure its nothing, but I'll ask anyway.

if that 'sawdust' you are talking about is dust from the oatmeal they are kept in it is ok, it will not hurt your cham. the butterworms will last for about a month tops unless you refrigerate them then they will last up to 4 months.

probably, about two - 3 weeks.. if kept warm, they will need to eat. Unless you have Trevo bush laying around, they will die soon.
The wheat bran is there to absorb moisture and stuff. They don't eat the bedding. I store them in the fridge with no problem whasoever. Is it because family members cannot fathom the idea of keeping worms in the fridge? :)
They won't exactly run and escaping everywhere. In the fridge, due to the temp, they will burrow into the wheat bran and spun some sort of protective layer and pretty much huddle together and sleep.

hehe, more or less, yeah, but that's just my assumption, that other people in the house won't exactly be crazy about the idea. may be a non-issue, though. its uncomfortably warm in here right now (and most of the time, lately) at around 80 degrees, so I think I'll have to get them in the fridge.

but even 2-3 weeks should be okay, I don't have that many at all. thanks for the help, fellas.

Even in the fridge the little buggers will eat each other, in the warm, it will be a feast....Put them in a non-clear container so the family can't see them....:D
The Butters are packed in wood sawdust, they do not eat it, it is not bran, oatmeal etc.;)

the butters i get here are packed in oatmeal. Probably just depends on the supplier what they are packed in so i dont know if the wood shaving dust will hurt your cham or not, i dont imagine it would as long as its just dust and not slivers of wood.

no kidding, i would've never expected that caterpillars (even starving) would eat each other. I'm gonna throw em in the fridge.
