Butterworms...

Butterworms have been causing quite a stir ( discoloration etc)and I was wondering if it is something to omit completely from Kevin's diet? Any news or info on this subject?

Are you referring to the way a butterworm may discolor the area around the mouth during eating?

That was a suspicion that was unconfirmed and the only case I've ever seen in chameleons as even a possible case. And that one is resolving regardless. I will not be taking them out of my chams' diets. My chams have eaten thousands of butterworms without any problems whatsoever.

I've fed them to my girl with no issues. I've seen a few bits about them on gecko forums though and don't feed them to my Leo's :)

Agreed... I did see where it appeared that the geckos had burn-like rawness on their faces. In chams, I've read about discoloration around the mouth but I think it was ultimately determined to be bruising which cleared up. I've never had problems with butters and I'll continue to use them.

Ok thank you I was just concerned that they may contain an unpleasant acidity for my chameleon!:)

I fed my Parsonii two large butterworms today and this happened shortly thereafter. First time she has had two large Butters and the first time I have seen her like this.

I do still feed my guys butterworms, but you know I get some tongue lashing when I mention that I have seen this in reptiles other than the geckos that come up on google.
