Butterworms

I just ordered Butterworms for the first time for my Nosy Be Panther Ego. I hope he likes them. I read somewhere you can store them in fridge for months. Is this the case? Do they become lively enough to get Chams attention?

Thank you

Yep, they last a long time in the fridge and don't need to be fed or anything. Let them warm up for 10 minutes or so and they wiggle around pretty well. My chams all love them!

The Power of suggestion....LOL. Gosh all these post on worms is making my feeder bill go up! LOL. I already get 6k Dubia a month but variety is the spice of life :D. See since I was already getting that many Dubia I thought heck what is one more mouth to feed, once an addict always an addict! :D

I suggest that if you are storing for more than a few weeks, you warm up the butterworms you are going to feed off for a couple days and let them eat. I find they like lightly steamed (and cooled) butternut squash - which is an excellent gutloading choice.

Ok so my butters came in today and Ego was not interested AT ALL. I think he got tired of me stalking him with my feeder tweezers dangling a nice plump red butterworm. I tried placing him on a leaf, nope. I tried placing it on a couple spots on the bio vine, nope....will try again tomorrow

It was about $43!!! That's why I asked questions about how long they lasted in the fridge. I had to buy two 25 packs at $7.45 to meet their minimum order then the shipping, whoa. I hope he starts to like them!

Depending on where you live, some wallyworlds carry them. I'd call around. There's also lindasgonebuggie dot com. She had reasonable prices last time I checked.

are the butterworms moving around? if they are just hanging there (suggests low quality, near dead, or too cold) they wont catch attention. If your chameleon isnt used to a variety of feeders, it may just not be familiar with eating new foods. Try putting the butterworms (lively ones that are moving around) into a bowl along with mealworms or some other larva the chameleon already knows about.

He love crickets. I'll try to throw a smaller one in with the Cricks. The one I chose was moving enough to catch his attention just didn't seem interested.
