And if anybody has instagram add me shamoneyxl718:D

hi!, first..have you washed the plant, really well with soapy water? a couple of times? It needs to have the pesticide residue removed.
Then, I usually repot it in clean soil, I prefer to not use organic, because you will have to deal with gnats, and they are a pain :) Just clean soil, from a bag, without additives.
Then go out in your yard and look for flat rocks, bigger than quarter size, so they don't attemp to eat them . You don't need to go all crazy if money is an issue, or if you happen to like being in your yard!. To make mine like a little beachy(since I live at the beach) I add med sized shells

When you repot, add some clean sand(I use black) for drainage, and small rocks near the bottom of the pot to help drainage as well. Our plants get more water than most, so drainage is important so the roots don't start to rot.

Please know I am in no way a gardner or plant person. I have a black thumb!, but everything in my cages grow really well, I haven't lost a plant yet, So its pretty simple
hope it helps, anne

Ahhh! Where were you when I was researching re-potting a few months ago? I used organic soil and gnats everywhere! It'd driving me up a wall! I have a Ficus and Umbrella. I'm going to just toss the Umbrella and hopefully get rid of the gnats in the Cham room and repot the Ficus. I remember seeing ONE gnat when bringing the Umbrella in.. now thousands! Believe Anne when she says no organic.

May I ask which brand of soil you use Anne? And with the sand.. should I put rocks on the bottom (as I did already) and then do a layer of sand before soil? Or do people actually mix the sand and soil? I want to make sure nothing goes wrong this time. I'm about to just say screw it and spend a couple hundred on fake plants for 4 ft tall cages.

:eek:So thats where these damn gnats are coming from, smh!!

J and J,
I get mine from a small uber cool nursery down the road from me, its their own blend. but lowes, HD any of them carry clean soil that is not organic. The gnats are a pain!. you can take your plants out and douse the soil with vinegar, let them stay outside to dry. The rocks on top help too.
Jordan, I mix a little of each until the top inch or so, mine like to grab a mouthful of soil from time to time so I dont want them reaching the "pebble" sized drainage rocks. pebbles, soil, sand, pebbles, sand, top soil, large rocks. Trust me, this is not scientific, and someone else will read this and say " omg, that is so wrong" but it has worked really well for me to date.
Sorry you guys are doin' the gnat craze
