Cage Size Question

I know people recommend a cage size of 24X24X48 for a male adult veiled but since the height seems to be the most important would a cage of 18X18X48 be acceptable. I currently have a 24X24X48 but was just curious. I know bigger in anyway is better but what I am wanting to know if this would still be a healthy environment especially if the cham gets outside time everyday. Was thinking about setting up a bigger cage outside and just using the smaller indoor cage for cold or hot days.

It's not a recommendation it's an acceptable minimum!

Height is mainly important so they can get a ventage point, other than that horizontal space is just as important as they mainly move horizontally in the top part of the enclosure.

If he moves between a smaller amd a bigger enclosure I don't think it's a bad thing but I would make the enclosure he spends most his day in the big one.

Sorry I meant acceptable minimum. Thanks for the info.

Height is the key to creating the widest possible variation of temperature and humidity for your chameleons to chose from as needed. Width is important so they can stretch out on a branch and have a feeling of territory. If the smaller cage was only used rarely maybe (big maybe) it might be ok. I would recommend adding a free range to it or just upgrading to be sure he feels he has enough territory and gets enough exercise.
I use smaller cages outside for some of mine but they are only in them for a few hours at most to get sun.
