Quite the badass :)
Thank you so much for the pics, he is awesome looking...and huge!
Anne

Thanks Anne! I keep thinking back to when I got Claude and he was quite a bit smaller and a few weeks older! I just loved the attitude from this little guy...we will see if I am saying that if it continues as he gets BIG!

trying to decide on a baby...

I have been in touch w/ the kammers and I am ready to purchase my first cham! :D only problem is, I cant decide. I had my heart set on an ambilobe clutch...then I found this thread, now Im looking at some sambava and ambanja's. Now I keep going back and looking at ALL of the available males. Im still considering my original choice, but just out of curiosity, what have you guys seen in yours as far as personality? do any seem more personable than others?
and oh ya, as soon as i get him this thread will be my first pic post:)

You can't go wrong with any of them. And just because you love the sire doesn't mean yours is going to look like that;) chams are like a box of chocolates LOL.....If you want a personable one it's best to stick to a private small breeder using Kammers stock and they will be able to tell you which ones were born with an attitude and which are as sweet as can be.(you could probably tell the kammers what you are looking for too) Generally Sambava's show color much later than ambilobe's and ambanja's. Also they look more "drab" most of the time but when they fire up:eek::eek:they have the largest change of any panther IMO. I don't think there is a personality difference btw the panther locales but there is between individual chams.

LOL, thx! I suppose I should have clarified more, what I meant to ask was if there were any real personality traits associated w/ specific sires that anybody noticed. I am waiting on a response from them regarding which they think may be best for me, just wondered if anybody out there on this thread had any opinions or advice. (ALWAYS looking for advice anybody has to offer) I did think about going to a smaller breeder, how do you tell if they are truly reputable? I have spent so much time researching and trying to learn, just want to make the right choice and do this right

If you ask Liddy she will get you a cham out of the clutch that shows signs of being docile.
I got a ambilobe male from OH MY that will eat out of my hand while sitting on my shoulder. I am not that big on handling my chams but this guy will try to climb on me as soon as I open the cage which is really cool as I havent had a cham like this in about 3yrs.

In that case I think the only locale that is known for being a little more aggressive is Nosy Be. As far as sires the only person I know that can answer that is Libby. But still it depends more on the individual cham so the one picked out of the bunch is more important. In general if you look through the three pictures of the sire and all three are fired up and displaying they are probably a little on the aggressive side:D If two of them are not fired up than it's probably a pretty chill guy. I know that I almost can't get my Ambilobe from Son Tiger to fire up no matter what I do:rolleyes:

I have been where you are and picked my first cham from the Kammers and have nothing but good things to say about them. Out of the big companies I would push you toward them for sure. As far as small breeders I am really talking about hobbyists that are on the Forum and have a clutch here or there. Usually they are from great lines and REALLY well taken care of babies, but that just comes with familiarity with the Forum. PM me if you want individuals but you can't go wrong with a cham from the Kammers!!! They have beautiful lines and produce outstanding offspring as you can see from this thread...no one else even compares!!

Honestly, each cham is going to be as different as each person. It is really hard to tell how they are going to be personality wise...however, if you talk to Liddy and tell her what you are looking for she will help you out! I have only had my Kammer baby for almost 2 weeks so he is still being a fiesty little thing!! That is another thing to remember...when they are the size of a lima bean everything is super scary so they tend to be a little more shy/stand-offish for a while until they get to know you aren't going to eat them. My first guy CLaude would not let me near him for months...then one day he fell out of his cage trying to crawl out onto the door and I was there to "rescue" him and now he is the most social guy...unless someone he doesn't "know" is around. They change A LOT as they grow and get more confident...I only have 2 chams and have only been doing this for almost a year, but my chams are a HUGE part of my day/life...I don't think you can go wrong with any of them!! I very rarely see a panther cham post about not being able to handle them...it happens but not as often as with other chams. :D
