Calumma and Furcifer

Monday, I picked up the two that Mike had. I was astounded that nobody else bought them. I know that some females would be nice but I am happy to wait for some.

Well I understood why no one was buying them. Are you planning on getting some females if they come in?

Yeah I have a standing order for six. I want to have two 1.3's. I think it's a shame that folks seem to only buy if they think they can make a fast buck on gravid females.

I have to say the O's are hands down my favorites right now. Adult parsons are really amazing to behold and I love mine but right now the O's are so colorful and active. So I doubt any of those will be going anywhere soon. :)

Great pictures and thanks for posting! X2 Great to hear your going for the long haul not just for the wild caught females. They are tempting however with long lived Calumma species you have expect plan from breeding past just for gravid imported females.

I don’t think it’s so much people wanting gravid females to make the quick buck, although I’m not entirely disagreeing with this statement; there are people in the hobby that do that for sure. The problem with these rare, low quota species is that you may get stuck with a bunch of one sex and the opposite sex just never comes in for whatever reason (quotas are revoked or exports are halted) or by the time they do come in they original animals are well past breeding age. Considering how expensive these new species are, people might not want to take that risk right off. Hopefully this is not the case here.

I really like those oshaughnessyi. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one in person, how big are they?

They are around panther size and are quite colorful though most of it is poorly captured by me, they have awesome sky blue colors under the jaw and through the gular area. The yellowy gold mid body is very nice as well. So far they will eat right in front of me though not from my hand atm. Not that that is important but it indicates, to me at least, what level of stress they are under. The females tend to be mostly green as with the parsons but the spacing on the scales allows for some color from the flesh and sun shining on it or through it. I really enjoy them and look forward to seeing them glow when they have settled in a bit more.

This is for sure a concern and one of the reasons I didn't buy the Ants when I first saw them. I am willing to take the risk and hope some females will show up in better numbers before any of the quotas get adjusted or closed. There are a few folks out there trying to get more of a balanced shipment but it's often held up by the native collectors and what they are willing to search for.

While they are not cheap they are still not unrealistic. If you get them quickly after they come in, they seem to be in decent condition, hydration and health wise. There is supposed to be more coming in soon so I will have to wait and see lol.

The O's are really looking nice! You are getting quite a collection.

Give me a text and stop by next time you are over my way for the produce store. :)

I would give it more than a couple shipment before we establish what a trend is for imports, maybe even a couple years. These imports may be more balanced out in the near future. Lets establish what is happening after more these imports have had more time to mature.

True but with the government in MAD being what it is things can change at any given moment so I understand the concern of not being able to fill out pairs or groups but at the same time, I'll roll the dice.
