can I hang my UVB bulb on the side of the cage?

I can not put it on top because it is only a 14x14 in space and the heat lamp is there.

Thanks
Howdy,

Both the heat lamp and the UVB source should be placed above the enclosure, aimed downward. If you can't aim them from above then re-evaluate your enclosure structure .

Photos of your setup might help.

I can see why that is true with the heat source, but why is that with the UVB source?

chams see uvb like we see normal light, and its natural to have light come in from the top like a forest canopy. im sure he would survive and be fine but why mess with nature when we do already too much.

you can angle the uvb hood light so that it sits diagonally on top. If not you can try mounting some lights on the wall.

Think of it this way: would you like to have a bright light glaring in your face all day?

They are used to light coming from above them. The light from the side would probebly stress them out. what kind of UVB lamp are you usin? linear tube or the screw in type?

I'm using a ReptiSUN 18 in. tube light.

Place the UVB kittycorner across the top of the cage. Then place the heat lamp along side the UVB.

The bottom line, ya don't want lights on the side of the cage. Just imagine walking around your house with all your lights placed on the walls facing the center of the room instead of down at the floor;)
