Can RI recover on its own?

A chameleon with an RI needs to go to the vets for a culture and sensitivity test to see which antibiotic with work on the type of RI that they have. If they go untreated the RI will continue to get worst and kill the chameleon after allot of suffering. I recommend warmer temps and a warm mist humidifier to go along with medical treatment. Often you will have to take a q-tip and clean out all the extra silva in the mouth. Is this your chameleon you are asking about?

Thank you Janb. Yes this is my own baby Panther (2 months). he has been sick for roughly 4-5days now since I discover the opening mouth. And he has been going ups and downs with the sickness, and I was thinking if he can win the battle on his own ....

I will take him to the vet immediately tomorrow.

Do you have a good reptile vet that has chameleon experience? With a baby you are going to need a really good vet. If not I might be able to help you find one if you tell me where you live?

I am from Hong Kong, and I will be going to a vet reccomend by a friend of mine with reptiles experiences. Fingercross. I will be taking him over first thing in the morning.

That's good that you have a friend with a recommendation because I don't know of any vets in Hong Kong. The very best of luck with him and please keep us posted on how he's doing.

I bought him to a very careful and nice vet today, did a saliva check and found some (little parasite) in the mouth, signs of infection and some other virus/bacteria in it. Prescribe 2 medicine for him, one for the parasite, and the other for the infection. Once a day and for around 3-5 days.

I hope he will get well soon, but when i have to hold the little guy and put a soft syringe in his mouth, my heart kinda hurts as I have to make his suffer and stress.

Any tips for feeding medicine or ways to get him out of the cage without stressing him out for a long time?

I hope your little guy gets well soon, and good job on taking him to the vet promptly :)

3rd day in the medicine. I am convince that he is recovering as he remained active during the day. Sleep well without mouth opening.
:DDD

That's good news! Thank you for the update!

This is the little guy in the morning before the medication ~~

How are you medicating such a small chameleon? How much does he weight?

Good luck!

Thanks :)

Hi, at first I thought I was quite impossible as well. The vet taught me once and the little guy opened his mouth quickly, but the next few times, he shuts his mouth firmly. it took me way longer.

The trick that works for him is to put a SOFT plastic film between his mouth (I use the edge small transparent bag that holds the medicine )

I use a mini syringe with a soft tube at the end to squeeze the medicine DEEP inside his mouth . I will post a picture of the tool later when I got time.

He is only 5 gram.
