can someone please tell what killed my baby

All of my specs are on point ! This baby was inside a fruit fly culture when I got home due to my fiance putting it in there. It was sour . She tried to make one and it was all wrong! I told her to through it out but you see how that went. Is this a result of the spoiled culture getting eaten or is it something else. This little guy was fine yesterday. Dead today. The brothers and sisters are all fine. This one was the late bloomer that just hatched 3 weeks ago

sorry to hear you lost a baby

there are a lot of variables - unless you have a necropsy you likely wont know for sure the cause.

Could just be the little one wasn't healthy to start with.

You say your specs are on point - but you don't tell us any details. Could you complete in detail the "how to ask for help" questionnaire?

how long was the chameleon inside the fruit fly container? was it active/where there a lot of flies or no flies? when you say it was sour, what exactly do you mean? what size is that container? can you post a pic?

sorry to hear, as mentioned lots of variables and little details. filling out the form will be a great start. how you have described it so far 3 things come to mind little to no air in the fruit fly culture, has to do with it being bad, and lastly choking hazard? I'd assume in a culture there would be lots and the cham would have a field day picking them off too quickly

A fruit fly culture gone bad smells horrific even with the lid closed. Once they crash it puts out a god awful ammonia like smell. If he was indeed in the container, i can only imagine he had his lungs burned out from the fumes. Sorry to be be graphic, but you asked for a possible answer. If i understand everything correctly, that is probably what happened. Culture cups have cloth ventilated lids so he could get oxygen no problem. After all they do ship chams in 8oz cups with smaller holes and cultures are 16oz with way larger holes.

Wow. I think the cause of death is probably the above. But, as the OP described, this was also a late hatchling so something congenital may have contributed.

I posted a pic but iguess it didnt load

There was a black spot right above the stomach just below the lungs. He was active that morning but when I got home he was in the fruit fly culture . I got him out. He was groggy like just being woke but was walking fine after being awake. 1 hr later dead. Big black mark on his belly like something exploded from inside. I figured amonia or he got some of the rotten media and it caused gas. Or swallowed some of the wood inside it punctured him internally I didnt meen to be veage I thought the picture was there...im very upset that hes gone....even more so at my fiance for meddling in something she knows very little about. I told her dont make the culture , we can do it when I get home. Nope did them herself and they were all wrong. Then I said through them away. Nope feeds that to my baby. So pissed! They are now moved to the guest room and locked down

now that she knows she is very sorry

So sorry that the whole house is clean I had a awesome lunch made for work every day and has been very quiet about anything that I have going on

thank you

Thank you all for confirming my suspicion. But it was to proove to her where mistake was. Im sorry it came at a loss of the life of my awsome late bloomer but now she knows to leave my thing be, and just let me do it

Now we possibly know the reason, let's solve the current problem. I hate to say this, but go apologize to your woman, if you said anything out of line when upset. She may have caused it, but she was just trying to be a part of your world. Like helping a mechanic fix his hotrod, or watch sports with you. Maybe she was just interested herself. The how and why is now moot, save the relationship before it gets trapped in the culture cup. Good god, i sound like dear abby. It's better than being single, you remember those days right? Oops, gotta go. Site admin said i was on wrong forum.

I agree with junglefries, don't prove her mistake! Now take tons of your time and include her in all your cham activities from feeding to cleaning. Also take time to teach her how to make a ff culture. She is your partner, make sure she know's that is how you feel. If you love your chams, share them.

she is here to stay

My fiance and mother of my two boys isn't going anywhere lol. I told her she was wrong to do it without me and for not listening to me. And she wanted proof so she got it. She has shown lots of interest ever since the kids are all oogly over them. I'm very happy that she is interested but she needs to learn alot before she goes all trial and error on a clutch. I want to do it with her but she cannot fly off with it without me to guide her....i have apologized so has she and has moved on but I'm really enjoying the made lunches and positive attention...i think I will ride that out as long as I can...its not everyday you get the girl in the dog house...buahahahaha!

truer words have never been spoken haha coming from a female that has made a lot of mistakes with men, she was just trying to help, but alas do so when you have someone watching to make sure if you mess up it doesnt go horribly bad. Definetely ride out the food because I know for me I am lazy as **** and will refuse to do things unless i feel bad, so take advantage of it while you can because im sure it wont last long haha but poor little guy, at least everyone learned a lesson to try to help with supervision instead of messing with such delicate animals
