Can you get your veiled Cham used to being held

My cham loves being held:)
When I open the door she walks right onto my hand. So, yes it is possible. But they all have different personalities. Maybe try hand feeding her so she knows your hand brings food:)

I've had my veiled for about 2 1/2 month now. And he wants to tear my face off everytime I go near him.

I have one cham that comes to me whenever I am near and climbs right onto an outstretched hand and one that is positive that I am the devil.

They definitely each have their own personalities. Keep trying but don't force it. Hold a favorite feeder with tweezers until your arms feel like they will fall off....I was able to get Golden Tate to take a super...ONCE...but I keep trying.

Slow & Steady wins the race.

My two panthers are very social and will crawl right out if you open the doors and hand feed from anyone. My Jackson isn't as social but he will crawl over to see if you have a worm for him and take it immediately, but isn't thrilled with being held. My veiled has never once appreciated being held, touched or even looked at. I gave up on him years ago and even with months of doing nothing but giving him food he still would rear up and hiss or run whenever he saw me. Each one is different. Some can be won over, but not all.

move very slowly and try to have the chameleon associate you with food.

know that not all chameleons will tolerate handling. If you want a pet you can handle, you might prefer a ball python or a dog.

I agree with the others- getting a cham to come to you willingly takes time, patience and a lot of hand feeding. That said, I also agree that some never warm up to the idea. I never pick my boys up, if they don't crawl onto my hand on their own accord they don't come out if the cage. I think that is important to lessen stress on the animal.

Has anybody been bitten, and did it hurt?

LOL! lots of times.
It depends on the cham, a full grown veiled can draw blood if they feel life
threatened.
My jacksonii used to bite me a lot until he settled down a bit, he still hissed,
but would "fake" bite, and head slap.
It feels like being pinched with a paper clip, or a piece of sandpaper ;)

Panther chams bite can leave a red mark on your skin, but I have never been
bitten by one hard enough to draw blood.

Big gulp, yepp been bit a few times, almost possitive that my chameleon thinks its a damned Crocodile from some of the nips shes given me over the last 5 months, on the plus side I have been able to get to hold her a couple of times but introduce any variable to the room and she insatantly goes back to wanting to take a chunk out of me

Veiled Personality

I don't think that there is actually any veiled out there that actually wants attention. Many different personalities. Try a panther there more social. Veiled are very territorial and love to hide. You can handle them but take them away from there cage. And limit your handling. And talk to them. Move Slow.... I'm not sure if talking to them helps thats just what I do...Lol:)And yes I have been bit several times. Don't jerk back. They will think that they rule you. Unfortunately let them bite you over time they will just open there mouth and change color and get upset at you but they will eventually stop biting... If they don't then you just got one with a high temper. Use a dowel to get them out.. Don't stab at them be gentle....Let them know your not going to hurt them. Try hand-feeding them it helps gain trust.

Mine loves attention!! She walks right onto my hand! Wen I try to put her back in she digs her nails into my hand!! Lol

You are lucky

Thats great I guess that would fall on personality..... My baby boy walter will walk on my hand but he looks at me like ....Do I have to...Lol

I have 2 adult male Veileds, and neither care to be handled much. One will just hiss and head slap mostly, but once he is out of his enclosure he is a sweet heart.

The other........ is like a demon from your worst nightmares. If I even hint at putting my hand in his cage, he will start to hiss and puff. If I dare get within 6 inches of him, he goes into attack mode. I use a pair of heavy winter gloves any time I MUST get him out of his cage. Even with the gloves he inflicts some pretty painful bites. Though to be honest, he is actually quite easy to get out of his cage, because he is so intent on attacking my hand that he will literally climb onto it in a attempt to rip off a finger or mangle the top of my hand.

Chameleons in general are not a pet that you handle and cuddle, but this is especially true with veileds.

Not all panthers are social either. The first one I met was pure evil. He was huge, gorgeous, just full of himself, and mean through and through. I've had vicious melleri (now that's a big cham that can do some damage!) and totally mellow friendly melleri. A nice male veileds and a really crabby mean female.

You'll just figure out the best way to deal with each personality over time. Don't expect to really change them, just figure out their triggers and work around them. You are smarter than a cham...or maybe I should say more devious?;)

keep all your interactions positive. When you open the door.greet him with food. When you take him out .let him free-range in a safe free-range area before returning him to his enclosure. Some just never get nice some do.I have found adult male panthers are much easier to handle in general.
