Cant decide!!

So I have yet to get a chameleon. I have been doing research for a couple months now and have decided I want a carpet cham! I just ordered all the lights and vines and stuff for the little guy but I cant decide which cage would be best for him.

I know carpets dont need full sized cages like panthers or vields but I still want him to be happy in a big enough cage but I worry he wont be able to hunt as easily.

I have been really looking at the Kammerflage Kreations 24Lx16Wx30H cage but I wonder if just getting the DIY cage around 16x16x30 would be just fine.

I have been talking to Dooley about getting a carpet from him, just waiting for the weather to warm up. Also FLChams has carpets

Wouldnt the carpet have a hard time finding his way around and hunting with that size?

Dooley and Dez both have them for sale right now. I'm getting one from each of them, to have an unrelated pair. So there's no problem there! I'm waiting to get a female from Dooley, so our future carpets may be related

Remember that these guys do a pretty excellent job of surviving on the island of Madagascar Most chameleons don't have a problem finding food in a cage that large. I wouldn't go that big with a youngster, but an adult could handle it. If you're still concerned you can always look into cup feeding. You don't even have to use a small cup, if you still want your chameleon to exercise his tongue. I use plastic shoe-box containers or bigger to cup feed so the food still runs around a bit and the chameleons have to shoot farther or closer and move around the box to get all their food.

You can still free range the food though. It's good for chameleons to have to move around and hunt down their food - it's good for physical and mental stimulation.

you typically don't want to house babies in huge enclosures, but other than that they will be fine.


also, you don't want your food running free in his cage; most use a cup/bin feeding method so you can keep track of how many are eaten, prevent the crickets from eating up your plants and cham, etc
