Cat keeps releasing chameleon!

I don't know if anyone else's cats are mischievous geniuses, but mine is and it's really getting annoying. This isn't really a question... I just wanted to shared my bizarre situation. My cat has discovered how to open the little bottom door by batting at the latches. I've actually witnessed her doing this, as well as seen my chameleon, Emoji, climb down to the open door and escape. They're like the double trouble duo! :p My cat doesn't seem to have any interest in him besides letting him out and just watching his wandering antics and Emoji doesn't seem to mind her. (That doesn't mean I want them hanging out together unsupervised!) Now I'm going to have to tape the door shut or something. :( Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Thanks so much, Jann! The blog was very helpful. I didn't realize this was a common problem! And here I though my cat was an evil genius! ;) It's a good thing Emoji is moving into his brand new DragonStrand cage by the weekend. :D Although the Reptibreeze work okay until now... well... I'm just glad I've got a DragonStrand now.

Wow! I never thought about the cat being able to open the bottom of the cage. I'm always just worried about mine pulling the cage down with her claws.

Yeah, that's what we thought about too... So we had secured the cage to the table... Never saw it coming until Emoji started miraculously escaping. At first we thought that he was opening the cage by himself! Lol!

1 - duct tape cage.

2 - Then get a can of wet cat food. Place near cage. Place cut out picture of a chameleon above can. Then connect to two copper wires. Connect wires to 12v battery. Enjoy.

You think I'm kidding.

:( I'm not sure how to respond to that... But I'll probably be using duct tape until I get him into his DragonStrand cage.

dont let the cat in the same room as chameleons, the cat will not tkae the responsability if he kills the chameleon, they are animals and are not bound by wrong or right, dont take any chanses:)

I was in the reptile room cleaning the chameleon cage and opened the bottom, the cat was sitting right next to me turning her head like she was watching how it opened LOL! Luckily one side sticks real good and I can barely get it open.

We put a poster frame in front of the tank, she can't climb up it and it blocks her from from the doors. The sides of the cage are already covered to keep the humidity in so she can't see anything on the sides.

Cat Proofing blog

I'm having trouble locating the blog about cat proofing that was mentioned. I have a very mischievous kitty who keeps jumping up on the stand and I worry about what she's doing when I'm not home if she jumps up there while I'm watching her.

Well let me tell you that you are not the only one that has dealt with this issue before. I have three terrors that roam the house like they own it. Ok maybe they do. So what worked for me is spray bottles. I had them all over the house. After they got squirted a few times they learned quickly to stay away. Every now and then they want to roll up and take a look at what is going on but other than that no issues.

The whole problem was fixed by moving Emoji into his big boy DragonStrand cage. The cat doesn't even glance at him anymore. :p Even if she did, I don't think she could open it. DragonStrand cage is so much more secure than Reptibreeze!

Are cats Dangerous to Chameleon? I mean, if it was a Fish it would be gone by now or a bird which smells like Chicken?

Do cats like the smell of Chameleon? do they enjoy their smell so a point that it's edible for them? are you afraid that the car will smack it around? or scratch it?

Chameleons are slow, do cats enjoy chasing them?

cats kill for their enjoyment so it doesn´t matter what animal it is, I really don´t like cats, expect for the 3 cats my friend owns so if you have a chameleon eaither look the cat in a room or lock the chameleon in a room where the cat doesn´t get in

Sure, a cat can decide to hurt any smaller creature if it moves. Even if a cat can't actually reach the cham itself they can jump on top of the cage, knock it over (and risk a fire from overheated lights), or even worse, sit and stare at the cham endlessly. This would be extremely stressful for a cham...a large gleaming-eyed predator that it can't escape from just waiting to pounce.
