Yesterday I hand fed him one after he swallowed it he climbed away and didn't want another one. Then this morning I put 4 in his cage and he ate one right away then climbed on the top of cage lol and when I got back from work the 3 I put in his cage were still sitting on the vine next to his basking spot and he was hiding under some leafs but all the crickets were gone so I know he was actively hunting.

Then about an hour ago I tried to hand feed him one and he puffed up and got mad. I thought they were supposed to love these things lol:confused:

Just a question why are you feeding so many? Don't you have a better staple besides something that's usually a treat? Also, they all have different personalities just like tastes.

I just got them I have a lot I wanted to feed off some before there food runs out, I'm just curious if any other owners out there noticed there chams don't like silkworms

I use crickets as a staple

Don't give him too many. He can easily get addicted if he likes them and stop eating crickets. Also, like I already said, some chams have different taste buds and don't like tastes.

Silkworms are actually good and can be used everyday aslong as you give hard bodied insects also. Mine hates silkworms. I've bought 3 pods the last 3 months and he's ate maybe 5 or 6

Just a note: Silkworms are not the same as mealworms or waxworms. Silkworms are actually quite nutritious for reptiles, and the amount you are feeding (or trying to feed, lol) is just fine. They are one of the insects with the highest natural calcium content that we commonly feed in captivity.

Anyway, it is true that chameleons have taste buds. Your cham must be picky! Haha :)

I had an idea they were ok to feed regularly Karma just kinda made me second guess myself lol

Pobably shouldn't have bought 2 cups of baby silkworms without testing them with my cham first lol money down the drain story of my life...

Do your research before giving advice like this. Silks are actually a more nutritious feeder than crickets. They have more calcium and are high in vits. And a bonus is they help with hydration issues also.

No feeder should really be a staple. We all need to strive for a variety of feeders vs a staple feeder.

I never said anything about nutrition, I meant better as in availability and price. Try not to assume, as it makes an ass out of u and me. If he gets hooked on something he can't readily have available, it can be bad.

I didnt ass sume anything. You called silks treats. Which they clearly arent. I get silks all the time as do alot of other members. Its not too hard to order something online thats readily avail yr round. From a site sponsor or other feeder site. Silks are easy to get.

And as far as price goes. You can buy the silkworm eggs for like 500 eggs is about 10 bux. Pretty cheap.

Treats, not because of nutrition again, but because it costs extra to order them and time to ship, as opposed to just going to a store and getting crickets.

Quit buying the cups buy the eggs. You can get 500 eggs for about 10 dollars thats cheap. I dont buy store bought cricks or other feeders you dont know what they were fed while in that location. Some stores use dog food, or fish food as cricket feed. I only mail order my feeders as do most members on here. Esp the ones with more than a single cham.....

Yeah, but it's still amusing to take your older sister and watch her scream when they open the huge thing the crickets are in and some jump out at her... :D

Get yourself a dubia colony going then. She wont sleep for weeks! My gf still freaks out evrytime she goes into the garage and they are in a big tub with a lid. :D

Oh, and my house is 30-40 years old, entire ceilings ripped apart, holes in the walls, etc, you should see the bugs that climb out of those holes!

I fed him 4 phoenix worms today and he loved them and I gave all my silkworms to my friend so I guess i'll be getting phoenix worms for now on
