Chameleon Dangers

I plan on painting my bedroom some time soon. I'm assuming that the fumes from the paint could be harmful for my chameleon. How long should I keep him out of the room before it is safe to bring him back in here?

Also I was wondering if using the vacuum cause too much stress for him. I have taken him out of the room every time I've vacuumed. I'm just wondering if it is actually safe to keep him.

Another question, are there other things that can cause him to get over-stressed? Any advice is helpful for me but everything seems to be going smoothly for this first month of having him!

Picture bonus! I have been taking him into the nice Cali sun the last couple days. It's been in the 80's this week!

I dunno bout paint fumes, but as for vaccuuming, i dont see why it woudl stress him. Chams are deaf. So they wont hear it. they may feel the vibrations but i vaccuum all the time round my guy and he couldnt care less.

Too much new stuff in his cage, too much handling, too much movement outside his cage, other chams, misting, can all be causes of stress.
chams are very frag-e-l-e ( said the funny way) ;)

eh.... the cham is honestly fine if you do things around the house, he is in his own comfy safe zone...chams are rather tough, veields espececially

but i think it is a good idea to move chams away from any chemicals, especially if its in the air.

other than that your lil guy should be fine

I was joking about chams being fragile. They just feel liek they are when you hold them. and they cause soo much stress on us cham parents!

I would get his away from the paint fumes and keep him away at least a day if you can, but go on about your life, vac or whatever. He will be fine, but we do all worry about them, don't we?

CONSTANTLY!!!! But yes paint fumes=dangerous as they are for even humans even though we don't think about it lol... Vacuum is no biggie though

if ya can smell paint air once u enter then its not clear.Buy air freshner or candle to get rid of the smell. I painted my whole room with color, made wood standstill with lotta paint, overcoat water proof, etc.. it still smell. so it ll take several day.

as for vaccum, they r right, they r deaf and sensitive to the vibrant, it shouldnt be a problem, as long ya not hitting their cage:rolleyes:

If you think that the drying paint fumes are bad for the cham the last thing you would want to do is use an air freshener or candle to mask the fumes! If your just using water based paint than a day or two tops is all it should take. At the end of the day just let your nose do what it does best, smell. If you can't smell the paint anymore or it's so faint that you would be willing to sleep in the room than it will be fine. If you want the paint to dry quicker put the biggest meanest fan in there on high and you should be fine within one full day.

Be very cautious using any type of air freshener or scented candle! Chams are much like birds...their respiratory systems are very sensitive to airborne chemicals. Some aromatherapy agents can actually kill a bird. If in doubt, don't use them.

The best way to get rid of paint smells? Open windows and get the air exchange going. Latex paints are pretty much safe and dry quickly. The vacuum may annoy your cham but its only for a short time.
