Hi, i have a seven month old Jacksons Chameleon, ive had him for two months, hes been only eating meal worms, he was on a hunger strike from crickets. Is kept in a screen cage (18x18x36) The problem im encountering is that he keeps puffing up his eyes larger than usual, only one at a time, but my main concern is if he has an eye infection, or if its dust that just irritates him, i live in New Mexico so its pretty dry and dusty out here and ive seen some lint or particles wandering around his eyes, i try to clean it as often as possible, im usually at school all day so i cant moniter him too much, this problem with his eyes has just started, hes only done it three times from what ive seen. What is it?

Thanks.

It could be that he's cleaning his eye out - chams will bulge their eyes when they do this. Do you have the proper requirements your Jackson needs to survive? (UVB, supplements, gut loading, etc?) I am uncertain if your husbandry could be causing a problem so all the advice I can give is to keep any eye on his eyes. Again, my guess is he's cleaning them.

they puff their eyes out and kind of roll them around to clean them, so it is most likely that he got some dust/dirt in his eyes and it is irrating him. it would be great if you could post some pictures of his eyes so that we could see if there is any other signs of illness that could be causing this. its probably dust, but its better to be safe then sorry! also, you can get saline solution, the kind for contacts and drip a little bit into his eyes to help him expel the dirt. hopefully you can get some pics up and keep us posted!!
