chameleon in snake bag idk?

so idk if this happens a lot i got my chameleon in a snake bag witch i think made her really stressed just wanted to know if this normal to get chams in snake bag i personally will never get another cham from this person in new jersey.
 
I don't know if it is normal but... that sounds terrible... Probably stressed her out quite a bit, and I can not imagine the airflow being very good in there. That would have scared me to receive a chameleon like that! Glad she is ok!
 
yea she is doing better the first day was a bad bad day she went to the top of the cage to bask right away then she fell to the bottom of the pot and looked like she was choking then she spit up saliva a bark and a cricket crazy i felt so bad i called they guy to tell him he did a horrible job shipping her and that maybe he shouldnt sell or have anything to do whit chams if he treats them like that.
 
I've gotten every single chameleon that has ever been shipped to me in a snake bag. It's better than being in a deli-cup, which has hard sides. At least the bag is soft, lets them grab onto it, and is nice and breathable. Why would it be nice and safe for snakes but not for chams?

I agree. It is dark and hopefully they are more calm. I don't like the deli cups either!
 
Huh that is so odd! My experiences with friends and family chams have been padded cups basically... Never heard of the snake bag method! Just sounds scary, hopefully the cham was sleeping through it :)
 
Snake bags are not terrible or harmful if packed right. I got my panther in a snake bag and he was fine. If I was a cham, I'd rather be in a bag than a hard plastic deli container.
 
Mine were purchased at a show and were sent home with me in 2 paper bags with a piece of folded paper towel. I'd say, "No harm, no foul". Good luck with your new cham.

How is this the shippers fault.? He didnt make her choke. Maybe your crickets are to big. And why was there bark in his mouth.? Many chams are shipped in snake bags with no problem. He was doing a good job, and cared for his chams. Maybe you should call back and apologize because you didn't know.

I have to agree. If you dont know, it is good to ask but you shouldn't have called and told the breeder he was horrible without knowing anything about it. Hopefully this wont be a problem for you in the future. :eek:

Edit: BTW is the bark in your enclosure for a substrate??
 
Mine came in a snake bag from Bruce at chameleon paradise and he's been doing it for years and my was perfectly calm when he climbed out me and a few friends did a study with shock meters and such inside a box to get a better understanding how Nd why corals get so damaged in shipping and you wouldn't believe some of the readings trust me a soft bag with packaging material is a much better idea that deli cups! I have a friend that works at a main FedEx facility hub and he says you better package your things to withstand 20ft falls
 
I have shipped many chams and have gotten many chams shipped to me. A snake bag or a brown paper lunch bag are the best IMO. They are both much softer than deli cups and more breathable as said. Would you rather the cham bounce off of paper or hard plastic? Especially if it is a species with horns that can be easily damaged. Another reason I dont like deli cups is because if you use a heat pack, the heat will build up quick in there. Ive heard many times of dead chams because a cham got fried in a deli cup from a heat pack.

I will second that. Chameleons are regularly shipped in snake bags and deli cups.

The method explained to me by a dealer is that animals under 5-6 months will be shipped in a deli cup. Animals 5-6 months+ will be shipped in the snake bags. Both are very viable methods of shipping and cause no injury to the animals.

I know things sound less then ideal but they cannot ship a large box with vines and other structures. just think, then if the chameleon is knocked around on accident the poor thing could lose an eye, which would give us a real reason to complain. They are doing responsible thing in the way they ship chameleons. Once our friends reach the home front it is on our plates to take care of them the best we can.;)

Here's the last chameleon I received in the mail who came in a snake bag. She came out looking pretty content, with just a little bruising on the tip of her snout, instead of bruises all over the place.
