question: How much should I pay for a ford truck? Toyota, and a compact car (honda)
answer: that depends.
The breeders compete against each other at the shows
they know the quality of their and others stock before the show opens
and have a better eye than the customer base
If they're up on their game... they'll price accordingly.
imho. low balling only means that the individual breeder
isn't confident about what they're offering (or some other motivator).
National pricing that a person can find on the web by posing a question
like this is always going to bring out the lower numbers.
It often Ignores the relative regional price differences for the animals
Do not include shipping costs
the fact that YOU THE CUSTOMER get the privilege to personally select
your new animal from the entire clutch.
nor do they compare apples to apples (quality breeding lines vs bulk animals)
all should be added into the final number -to be fair about it all.
A good price for a panther is what YOU FEEL it's worth.
they are not factory assembly line animals.
Each has a personality and personal traits (size health color etc.)
that you can select according to your own tastes.
I paid top dollar for my first panther I spent an hour choosing
a nice and friendly animal - and I wasn't disappointed.
That to me has always been worth paying something extra for
IF you don't care about any of those things
there are lots of places that sell bulk animals for the lower prices listed above.
At the shows where you can expect to pay more
for something and less for others.
Established breeders tend to maintain their online pricing at the shows.
IF you're personally new to chameleons
I would suggest buying a veiled vs a panther or a jacksons.
green bulk veilds are $25-40 each
nicer high yellow or colored lines are around $100 each.
Just FYI that there will be a much bigger show in Timonium in september. The Mid Atlantic Reptile Show: http://www.reptileinfo.com/. That would be a better show to shop for chameleons. The Havre de Grace show is pretty small and very snake oriented.
Just something to keep in mind.
This is true. I got my first cham from screameleons at MARS.Its a fun show to go to,i went last year on my birthday just for the heck of it! I know chuckg(heroicchameleons.com) has a great set up,had some beutiful panthers too Im sure theyll be there this year too. So as far as i know, two very good breeders there. But at the havre de grace show, its basically in a small center, your normal pets, snakes, beardies etc...Just FYI that there will be a much bigger show in Timonium in september.
