how long should a veiled chameleon b allowed to sleep?
I know that he pretty much goes to sleep when all lights r off and wake up
when lights r on (never fail to do this).
The problem is I often stay up late (till 2 am) to do works and he's in my bedroom.
So, he tend to stay awake as late as i do, and wake up as early as i do.
(i wake up around 6 am to 7 am so that i have enough time to take care of him before i go to work).
4 hours is my minimum requirement to not b cranky in the morning..

but, I am thinking just logically that my veiled cham might be like a human baby that needs 8 hours of sleep..
Is it even logical to think that way?
I never find a good reading that tell me exactly how many hours this precious critter needs to stay healthy.

Howdy Dodo,

The most common chameleon schedule used is 12 hours on and 12 hours off since that is fairly close to their natural schedule in the wild. I have my chameleons in their own separate room so that their sleep cycle is not disturbed by my schedule. I know that isn't possible for most keepers so maybe using a cover to block out light might let them sleep closer to a regular schedule.

o man...
12 hours?
well.... i guess i'll do my work in some other room and only go to bedroom when i am finished.
I'll do whatever i can to not disturb him too much.
I can't really put him in other rooms (all of which are high traffic and I have two little cousins that are super active lurking in the shadows :D..
putting my chameleon in the vicinity of them is a potential disaster)

i put a cover (shower curtain).. but i don't think it block enough light.
there still some showing up..
I used it to cover the cage on 2 sides only (to block "columbus" from seeing
my TV turned on.. without the cover, he just stares at my TV for hours and hours as if he's watching it.. well, chameleon or not, watching TV for hours and hours is definitely not good!).

Let him get his Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hey there! I wish I could get by on 4 hours of sleep. Geez.......... I think it would be good for you to do your stuff in another room and let him sleep undisturbed in the bedroom. I'm a late night person too. I've noticed that many of my baby and younger chams stay up as long as they see me doing stuff around the house, even if their cage lights are off. The older chams get used to my activity and just go to sleep right after their cage lights turn off. They look dead to the world. I try to keep my activities away from the younger chams so they can get their sleep. I'm going to assume they need it to help them during their growth period.
