Chameleons and children

I've read several things that say chameleons are NOT good pets for children. Simply because they shouldn't be held every single day. I say your wrong. Take the time to teach boundaries, and involve them in the care and you have a perfect pet for children. My children don't want to hold them everyday. My children LOVE helping feed and care for the feeders AND chameleons! Just a picture from today during one of our misting sessions for the chams. This is my two year old son thoroughly enjoying that he gets to help momma mist! Pure joy!

Too cute! I find that small children love helping out with reptile chores too, all my friends' toddlers are overjoyed getting to spray down cages, throwing veggies into bug bins, or getting the honor of shaking some poor worms in a cup of calcium. They love feeling like they're helping and they get to learn about taking care of animals nice and early. It's a win-win!

Awe that is adorable. With the young children as long as they are supervised it is fine. I have a great neice and nephew that just love coming over to see my chameleons. I always have them sit down on the ground to hold them incase they drop them or something. Everyone is always fascinated with them, especially kids. I see nothing wrong with it either, but handling to a degree as we are not talking puppies here! I remember when got a little dwarf rabbit when my daughter was about three years old. It disappeared and here she was carrying it around in her backpack!! Thank god he was ok, but again supervision is key(which I obviously was not)!!!

Haha ya the shaking of worms is my 5 year olds favorite job! He also finds it very important to pick each individual worm out. There's a difference, he will pick one up and say, "he's not ready to go" haha

Supervision is definitely important. The "lizard room" is off limits unless given permission in our house. Our panther is still quite new to our home so he doesn't get handled by the kids. The jackson how ever, gets to be held about once a week. Not to terrible long though. It's still pretty cold up here in Minnesota! The kids REALLY love hand feeding.

That rabbit story is HILARIOUS!! That is SO my daughter! She wanted a bunny for quite some time but then changed her mind to wanting a carpet chameleon. She's currently saving until her birthday in September for one. She has big plans for the summer when school is out. She's getting a job she said lol she's seven, and by job, she means she's going to go to work with her daddy. Which consist of things like getting ice creams and occasionally handing daddy a tool. Haha we did tell her we would double what ever she has saved up when her birthday gets here. I've noticed there is suddenly ZERO loose change around the house now she's determined!
