Have any of you noticed your chams seem to frequent one plant for all their elimination? Liz seems to love poopin in the bridal veil I've got hanging in her cage.

my chameleon will go to the lower part of his branches and seems to desicrate so that the feces hits the ground and not his tree.

Ya he poops right into his feeder cup! Little punk! it's like he's playing basket ball and aims str8 for the middle! lol

Arnie, my adult male hangs off one branch and over the week makes a big pile. If I cover it up with some substrate, he uncovers it. He likes it sitting there, so I have to clean up the cage every couple days.

See, I knew I wasnt crazy, this girl uses an entire plant as her bathroom, wish she could be neat like yours though Jan, makes cleanup that much easier ;-)

Haha ya they are messy! I got luck with my leopard geckos too! They both poop in one cave and sleep in the other! heeh

If im home, cham lets me kno wen he wants 2 use the bathroom, he comes up to the lower part panel door of his mesh cages and starts walking ova it/rubbing against it like he wants out. I then let him out n he slowly wanders ova climbs up my trousers, up to my arm, across to my hand . I knew he needed the loo, coz he cop'd a leg out and was straining so i held him ova the loo whilst he did his business lol he's a funny chameleon! :)

I think the books call it "latrine oriented". Most of our chams are, too. Many of them drop it onto the floor at the periphery of their domain. Two of our chams poop wherever, and I have to search for it in their branches. One time I tried these nice new big feeder cups for feeding our larger chams, but several of them used them as toilets, so I gave up on that.

We had one gravid female cham that wouldn't do it until you took her out of her cage. Then she would sit on your hand, hike one leg up on one of your fingers, and another leg to the other side and poop on your hand. She tried it several times. The first time, at first I didn't realize what she was doing. Once I realized, I didn't want to stop her because she had not pooped in a while and I didn't want her to get impacted. So, I just let her rip. But I'm squealing, so my husband grapped the camera for a photo (below). The next few times she tried it we put tissues under her butt. Eventually she began pooping on her own, in her enclosure.

A word of advice, for what it's worth, if you have a cham that hasn't pooped in a while, taking them out for some exercise can really help sometimes. A few times I've just taken a cham out and let it walk on my hands, from hand to hand, over and over again, for exercise, and then put him back in his enclosure and a short time later he's poop. SOmetimes they just need to move things around a bit.

Perhaps we should have a monthly photo theme "poop photos". Prizes awarded for volume, placement, technique, etc.

Some also use poop as a lure. they will poop on a lower branch or flower knowing that the smell will attract insects. they will perch above and wait for them. so if it makes him feel like he is hunting, id say to just leave it uncovered, but to remove it at the end of the day.

Mine try not to get it in their plants, but aside from that... they dump wherever they please.

Now my Female Beardie is funny about this... She will hold her poop until I clean out her water bowl... Once it is cleaned out she runs from accross Viv to jump in and starts to take her crap... She plops her butt in the water and lets it go... But she literally waits for me to clean it for her to do this, and she comes running after I put it back in every time.... After she craps, for some reason she loves to bathe in the dirty water. I have to wait for her to finish her routine, then promptly clean out the water again. Not to mention giving her a bath in clean water twice a week.
