Chams First Shed

Well my little female veiled cham just shedded. Everything went great:) She was very irritated at it, she kept trying to bite and tear it off:eek:. But now it is all done. I sprayed her a few times and that helped. Now she is back to normal, and has a bit more brighter colors:) Well just thought I would share this.

Cool! Just keep the humidity up when you see the first sign of shedding skin. I normally never get to see my chams shed. I keep the humidity up and i have live plants in their enclosures so once they start shedding typically 3 hours or so go by and they've completely shed. Ive had my female veiled shed a few times at night, finding the skin on the floor in the morning.

Snakes are more inclined to be aggressive during sheds because their ocular scale makes it more difficult for them to see (their eyes get a milky color). I haven't really noticed my chameleon changing it's behavior, other than just trying to get the old skin off of it's self as quickly as possible... nothing that i've thought to be more aggressive at least.

She was the least bit aggresive, and I think if you mist the cham when it's shedding it helps a lot. But I noticed that she just has 1 piece left on one of her feet. Should I just wait and she'll eventually get it off? I know shedding is probably very itchy for the cham, so I just want to make her comfortable.

Yes, just leave it. It will come off on it's own. Also, if it's attached, it can be painful to peel off before it's ready. I've had some that a little piece seems to stick until the next shed, no big deal unless is stuck on their eye turret or something.

That's what I thought. Yeah ripping it off would be like ripping off a scab or something for us. Sorry for that stupid comparison:rolleyes:
