Chow Question!

I bought some ready made silk chow for my silkworms and the only instructions were to keep it in the fridge, which I have done. My question is how long does it keep for? Silkworms are not readily available over here in the UK so I can't get them very often. The chow was quite expensive so I'd like to know how long it'll keep for in my fridge! I am placing an order for more silkworms as soon as they are back in stock.

The chow can stay quite awhile in the fridge. i still have some chow in the fridge after 8 months and it is still not bad. i recently had some silkworms and they ate some of the chow.:)

A lot of silkworm places say that you can store pre-made chow for up to a month in your fridge. If it's dry then it will last up to something like 8 months.

Chow doesn't last THAT long...... I don't know how many worms you got tiff but silk worms eat a lot and will prolly eat it up.

if you have some left over it'll keep for about 3-4 months if chilled and sealed...

thanks what size do your adults eat
and how long do they take to get delivered

I bought mediums and fed them up a bit. They aren't that big - Amy is not quite adult yet - just remember the feeder no bigger than the gap between their eyes rule. They grew quite quickly this time as I fed them. The first lot I just got silks and they didn't grow and didn't last very long! Tommy is adult but I didn't try him with them as I thought I'd let him settle before introducing new food too quickly - Amy had the last one a couple of days ago!!

Thanks, it came in a plastic box (with lid) and I keep that inside a cricket tub in the fridge. I only order 25 at a time - I can't rely on them as a staple feeder due to the erratic availability.

how much do they charge for eggs? you could raise them....

Raise the wormies? I want to try it! It doesn't sound extremely hard...

it's not too bad if you have chow ready for them and a clean warm place for them.

i use my Hovabator.... last time i did it i didn't have chow ready.... and they all migrated to the contianer with adult worms and leaves.... amazing how they knew where to go.... but they didn't make it.... most dried up on the trek over to the leaves.
