Coating hand made vines?

Hey all. I have been hand making a lot of the items I plan on using in the adult cage but I have noticed that with the stem wrap stuff there is a type of residue on it. I have had to use very small amounts of tape also. I was wondering if there were any recommendations on something I could use to coat wrap/tape so that it won't wither when wet or hurt the cham. I was thinking something along the lines of paraffin wax? I know humans can eat it without a problem but didn't know if maybe it could harm them in some way. It would be very minimal.. just enough to coat.
Thanks for the help!

Horse bandages - the ones they use to wrap their legs. Comes in all colors and sticks to itself. Also okay to get wet and easy to replace and/ or change.

Some clear silicone (aquarium sealer) would be great.
GE Clear Silicone I.
Or the generic hardware store or Home Depot / Lowes brand.
It smells like vinegar when drying but it is totally NON-toxic when dry.
Allow to dry 24 - 36 hours.

BIG Hint:
Feeling like being creative and messy? :)

Get a caulking gun tube of it (it is actually cheapest that way) and sqeeze it out in an old (throw away plastic bowl or paper plate) and mic with very dry dirt or dry peat moss.

Wear disposible gloves and slather around & coat ropes, wire + rope, those foam wire twist ties or anything and create your own vines for about 1/6 the price you would pay in stores for fake vines.

You can even knead in very dry moss for a differnt texture/ look.

Caution:
There are colored silicones and other silicone products used for caulking... for around tubs etc.
Most of these CONTAIN MOLD INHIBITORS other chemicals that are not inert etc. = TOXIC.
It usually say on the label.

So best stick with the old fashioned clear "100%" silicone that is "food grade safe for incidental contact" and / or can be used for aquariums.
GE Clear Silicone I.

The best thing is it is TOTALLY washable & sterilizable and will last for ever.

Here it is at wall mart:

Good luck with your vines.
