Cold weather dubia

After the cold weather has started to come into Ohio in the last week or so , I have moved my colony inside where i feared they had a a lot of die off due to the coldness we have had.... after 2 days inside i clean out the enclosure to find about 60 new tiny little nymphs, thank goodness for the timing, I didn't want to waste the little guys, I am almost to the point where i can start feeding them off now...I don't know how many i have but i do know you can hear them from about 20 feet away...lol next thing is to putting them into a new enclosure somewhere in the house to maintain the proper humidity and heat... with the least amount of escape possibilities....

I know I sure as heck wouldn't be keeping roaches in my house. Escaping is a possibility and if a female escapes that is ready to lay, you are in HUGE trouble. Good luck with keeping them inside.

I can't keep my colony in the garage all year either Ren........Two years ago I moved it into the house during the winter. I never moved them back out to the garage. I keep E. Distanti and E. Prosticus though and they can't climb out of a two inch bowl. That's a great feature but they are slow growers and it takes 8 months for them to sexually mature. It took me two years to get the colony going enough to be able to feed them out regularly. I have them in a big glass aquarium with a screen top in one of my chameleon rooms. They are actually very interesting to watch. I don't think my husband even knows they are in the house year round. I certainly don't tell guests about them. Did you end up with a good solution for keeping them in their living quarters? I saw several suggestions posted and was wonder what you decided to do.

Right now they are in the same container i had them in, i now just keep iton top of the wash machine, i figure the humidity of it and the dryer going would help them out....
