Ive had my veiled chameleon for about 8 days now and he is having his first shed since we've got him. I've noticed that he seems much lighter then he usually is, is that normal when they are shedding? It's almost like a yellow greenish color. I've heard on a different forum that it is, but I'm not completely sure, anyone have any ideas?

Other info
*male veiled chameleon
*3-5 weeks old
*his name is dilly :)
*screen cage
*basking spot of 80-90 degrees
*fed 3-5 crickets daily (usually leaves like 1 left)

Yes, especially when younger I've noticed that they can be lighter in color, less vivid looking and almost drab at times. It can be upsetting the first time you see it, and often there is a lack of appetite while shedding so you think there is something major wrong. Usually the shed is followed by renewed bright colors and great opportunities to take pictures! :D

How big are the crickets? A chameleon that young will easily eat 20 or more small crickets a day. 3-5 is not enough and I am wondering why he is not eating all of those. Do you have a uvb bulb in addition to the basking bulb? How does your basking spot vary 10 degrees?

Agreed

I agree he should be eating more. I have had adults eat more than 20 crickets at once veiled are big eaters. especially when growing.
