I caught a fly in the house today and was like hmm.. I wonder what tops (jackson) would think of this.

I let it go in his cage and he almost fell off the branch lunging at the fly!

I went outside and caught some more with the same results from him..

ill have to do some research and see what other flying insects he might be able to safely eat

:)

mine loved to zap them, but young ones seem to want to get as close as possible before zapping, perfectionist, or just perhaps because the tongue isnt that long yet?
he would get the hang of it given opportunity.

I would always be wary of giving wild caught flies. I know that if my cats eat them, they often end up with worms shortly afterwards.

I have to agree.

yet it is so easy to get houseflys from many local bug stores or websites.
a tub of them in the pupae stage costs around $6.00 and you don't have to worrie about wild caught problems.

they are easy to gut feed, just mix a soft boild egg with a tablespoon of plain yogurt, some crushed up chereeos, and a teaspoon of honey.
put flys in the fridge for 5 mins to cool them down, open the lid, smear the goop to the side, then close the lid.
in 15 mins your flys are gut feed and ready to be added to the cage.

splat loves houseflys, he can't get enough...
