Complications laying

My female ambilobe is trying to lay for the second time. She had no problems the first time and this time she has gone down and dug two holes. The first hole I wasn't there to see her back into and lay so I assumed after she came up that she was done. I checked it and no eggs. Tried to recreate the hole the best I could. The next day (today) she went back to digging and dug deeper this time and I saw her back in like she did when she laid the first time. Checked back on her an hour later and she had covered the hole. Same thing I thought she laid but found nothing again. Any thoughts on when I should take her to the vet and induce the eggs? I don't know if I should just give her another day or what? She ate and drank for me today too cause I could tell she was weak from digging. Thoughts?

If she's not showing any signs of going down hill you could give her one more day undisturbed in the laying bin if you want and then see the vet. They normally lay all the way in the bottom of the bin. Does she still look fat?

From what I know, if they intentionally fill the hole in but haven't laid any eggs it can be an indication that they are eggbound.

Took her to the vet today and got some oxytocin. She laid 27 eggs an hour later and she is doing fine now :) thanks everyone. Hopefully these are fertile that way we will have some Ambanja x Ambilobe babies

Great news to here! The very best of luck with the eggs.

Hmmm so is it common for females to go back to the laying bin and dig a hole like they are going to lay after being given oxytocin? She has already laid 27 eggs... maybe there are more?

That's not normal. She could have more eggs but 27 is a good amount of eggs for a panther. How is she doing today? Is she eating and drinking?

Just had a very similar problem. My female failed to lay the first time and second time she dug a tunnel, but seemed ok otherwise. after a week I put her in a trash barrel egg laying setup and over the course of a couple days she laid most of the eggs then dropped the last few in her cage. I have had that happen when oxytocin was administered as well. Best bet is to palpate her and feel for any retained eggs. Give her a few days to see if she drops them on her own, and if not consult your vet about another round of oxytocin.

She is doing better today. She slept in her hole I guess out of instinct. When she woke up this morning she went to her branch and never went back down. She was immediately hungry and ate and drank a lot through out the day. Double checked the bin and it was empty. So total count was 27 eggs and I'm pretty sure that's all she had. She laid 27 her last clutch too
