Considering giving up Iguana

We have a beautiful female iguana that needs a bigger space than we can provide. She's adorable, totally healthy and loves a good close cuddle. Problem is, she scares the other animals. (Chams) And our beardie wants to break out of his space to mate with her.) She needs space. We've had people out to look at her space and bid on what we can do to pin her into a space, but we've talked about it and we just think the space is too small.

We're just reaching out to those who can truly provide a good life for her, and a lot of room and hopefully some outdoor living as well. Really, if you have a heart, she is just too cool. We were told she is 4 years old. But she really didn't start growing until we got her. I think she's about 3 foot plus right now. She's been on a power diet of great greens and fruit and calcium. She for some reason doesn't like dandelions. Loves squash, kiwi, carot and mustard greens. Her preferences change on a monthyly schedule. She ate Fuji apple for me today...but days ago wouldn't touch it.

Please let us know if you have the space to provide her with a good lifestyle. She's such a sweetheart.

I love to cuddle with her late at night on the couch when she should be sleeping...she wakes when I pull her off the couch and just soaks up the heat from my body lying on my chest with her head nestled in my neck... I love her. I know someone on the forum will resonate with this message...

She sounds perfect. I have always wanted an Iguana but I hear horror stories of tail whipping etc. Your girl sounds ideal. I would love a large lizard that enjoys a cuddle. As we speak I have my bearded dragon on my lap. I live in England though.

I sincerely hope you find a good home for her.

me and my dad have raised iguanas for prolly the last 8 - 10 years and i know he is looking for a new one for his class room (hes a 4th grade teacher). Ill let him know. He has a home built cage for his classroom that is 5Lx3Wx6 1/2H in his class and he has a big 10Lx5Wx5H outdoor cage in his backyard that we built for our last big male who passed away a year or so ago that right now only has our 2 desert tortoises in it. I know he wants another one and we could come pick her up. ill be in touch :)

We have them all over the place here in FL. Yesterday i saw one that got ran over on the street. Poor thing.

I wish you best in luck of finding her a great home

This is a real shame you guys. I've seen the pics of this animal and he is a really nice looking iggy. I would take him in a sec if I lived near you guys.

Iguanas are what got me started in this herp thing many many years ago. I've had a total of 5 and 3 different species. Unfortunately non of mine were nice. :(

Now only if you guys had a Fiji I would fly out there to get him. It's funny that all Fijis are considered property of the royal family of Fiji or something like that. They have to be one of the most beautiful lizard species there is. Surpassing the most amazing looking cham.

Then again....if you had a Fiji I doubt very seriously you would be giving him away let alone posting on a public forum about him. ;)

edit: I was just doing a lil googling and came across this and thought I would share. Bowchicabowow

Thanks Chamgirl, I wish you were closer too, you'd be a great Iguana Mom. Our girl doesn't use her tail accept when she's bathing. She swims well because of that tail! My toy poodle has been around her a lot and she never bothers to whip. If she's bothered, she strolls away and goes to a favorite spot. Thanks for your reply.

Wow! Thanks for the reply. Just curious how old your iguannas were when they died?

Thanks Stefan! I know the perfect people will come along because she really is such a good girl.

Hey Shan, good to hear from you! According to Stefan, Iguanas are common enough to be run over by cars in Florida!

Fiji's are amazing! Thanks for posting that great photo of the Fiji and Cham too. I always love hearing from you.

Thank you Ronnie for your kind thoughts.

Yes that is true,...sadly.

I have only seen 2 ran over ones and 1 dead one that just died in front of me by my bus stop in the mornings. I hope to see no more dead ones.

I think..i may be wrong but when iguana is about to die on its own it becomes like a mix of yellow and orange color.

some are that color on their own. I had a large male that when basking turned a bight orange/yellow/gray

phil and or deb lol, im still working on my dad.

Hope you find a suitable home for your Iggy. Thanks for being reponsible and caring!
:)
Thank you Sweetheart. (Deb here,lol!)
He's absolutely right, they are thick in Dade and Broward counties, many of them end up as road kill.
Since there are so many, do you feel people are less inclined to want to own them as pets?

Deb, Incase you find rehoming your Iggy difficult, I have posted your request on a freinds site. You never know, a wider message cant hurt.
Best wishes :)

Thanks Love. I actually have him in my references in a word doc but I don't know where I got it. Thank you for always being so thoughtful.

During the mating season male iguanas turn orange, and yes some do change when basking, its not because they are "dying".
