Constant misting?

Is constant/ near constant fog in a screen cage a bad idea?

Im planning on making on similar to this. Ill probably use a "tarp" or something to cover up the back so if i do use a hand spray bottle its not spraying my wall. I plan on getting a vieled chameleon.

Constant fogging is bad. Only use a fogger during 1 hour sessions and maybe three times through out the day, especially if you have a veiled. They don't really need a fogger if you have a good misting system.

I dont have a misting system, ive had ishues with them so thats why ive decided to attempt to diy. If i could fog on any schedule in combination with hand misting would be gravy for me. If i ever went on a long car trip my chameleons would be left without water. So i thought a fogger would be a cconvient alternative. (Long car trip being -6 or so hours) thanks for your advice ☺️

Foggers don't replace misting at all. They don't provide enough moisture usually unless put on for a dangerously long time. They also don't help with eye cleanings at all. What kind of misters have you gotten?

Oh lord, it was so long ago i hardly remember, they were definitely cheaper brands. I think i had a zoo med one once..

Zoomed ones are shit, sorry to admins before hand for the language, I have had... Stuff done by them and I think exoterra when I thought I didn't need a mist king and they all broke within a year possibly shorter. I ended up buying a mistking and have never needed to replace it. All I do is soak the nozzles in vinegar during deep cleans and hand mist during that day along with a shower. After the vinegar has been cleaned and they have been soaked in hot water and then rinsed in hot water again the next day they are ready to be used again. I do this maybe every other month? The nozzles and the reservoir (bucket) are the only things I have cleaned. I do plan to do a system clean but that I will do after I move and before I put the mistking back in. I am more meticulous than most people with cleaning too. But it keeps it running and is supposed to extend its life. I think the average life of a mistking is 10+ years

Like everyone said, mistking has proven to be the go to mister, but recommendation for your tarp idea is going to your 99cent store or dollar tree and get the shower curtains then cut it to size. I did this to my chams cage and covered 2 sides tof avoid spraying my walls and better drainage. Worked like a charm and it's cheap which was my main concern. I still had enough to cut 2 more when they need replacement

Shower curtain is a fantastic idea! Thatd give you a sturdier plastic than trashbags or foil. (Ive used foil before it worked pretty well, though not very pretty)

I use shower curtains for mistings at the moment. Clear plastic ones and usually the stiffer ones.

Mistking rules...hands down....rest are mediocre & BS agree with Andee;) the key word is "KING"

If youre all certain itll last that long i dont mind paying so much for one. Ive seen so many cases where they stopped working in under a year i didnt want to pay 50+ for something that failed horribly, since im not the richest of people :p no one has any trouble with water pooling/ flodding the bottom of the cage? Ill include a picture of the type of cage i have. (The one in the picture is disproportionate so idk if its the same size of mine but mine is plenty big.) :p the cage i have is the largest that was available.

For pooling issues you get a drainage system. That's what you should be doing now with mistings anyway, because you should be misting long enough that you would have that even with hand mistings. Mistkings can often run dry without any issues. You just have to make sure to prime the pump before trying to use it again afterward. And of course it's preferable for it not to run dry. I have never had any issues with my mistking, a lot of people have used mistkings for 15 years or so and some have had the same system for that long or longer. It's just about good maintenance. They have good customer service too.

wonder what is that you saw:rolleyes: thats not functioning....prolly a copycat shit misting system....lol I vouch highly of MistKing specially Marty the guy is genial...
not really a prerequisite but if you want less trouble with controlling humidity i suggest go get one.... but at the end of the day u can still go back to the basics which is buying a spray bottle and spraying it manually and constant monitoring of the humidity levels...no biggie...labor of love...i assume

Im glad to hear they have good quality and good customer service! When i had chamleons id hand mist the leaves untill there was water drops everywhere, and made sure i soaked the chameleon itself at least once a day. Id also leave some water drops from the top of the enclosure since they seemed to enjoy drinking like that.

Im definitely looking into one now. hand misting is what i tend to do since i dont mind it. I just didnt want to have them have to rely on it. (When im not home etc)
All in all i still do plan to hand mist. I just thought a fogging system would be a good thing to add to it, leaving them with some humidity sincethe air in my house is always dry, plus it wouldnt cost me a ton. (Basically i like to diy stuff)

Ill do some more research on it presently, but this is the particular one im looking at.

The amazon page is vague.
I asume this is electrical? And the canister in the picture is pressurized air? If it is pressurized air will it refill itself? (this is why i asume its electric)
Is it loud?

No the picture is the pump part. It's interesting to explain. The reservior is pretty much whatever size bucket you decide to buy. I bought a snap on, food grade bucket from homedepot. But I agree with @xrowdac it's very dangerous buying from amazon when it comes to mistking in my opinion. It's so easy to get scammed.

the KIT comes with a very very detailed instruction even a 8th grader can do it...so no worries..man...;)

cant wait to see your reaction... i was also on same boat as u ,, skeptical...but man after i saw the performance..damn. i went like.. WTF.....i should have known this sooner...lol... :D nowadays i just sit back watch and relaks....ezzy
