Constipated male or gravid female?

Hello there

It seems I need some help. My veiled cham TOTO was pretty happy and social, always sitting around basking, keeping a nice even juicy green. Even friendly for a veiled cham.

About 10 days ago he started flaring colors (dark green stripes and some green polka dots), being grumpy, and finicky about eating.

A couple days later he also started roaming around the enclosure non-stop and still flaring colors, but now also some light green and brown stripes/circles. At this point not even loving the wax worms and hissing every time one was offered to him on a palm (usually loves this and does not hiss).

Finally (yet couple more days later) I have noticed that he is not pooping and his belly is getting a bulge near the rear section. I have assumed he is constipated. Since then I have been misting him A LOT with warm water (seems to enjoy), gave him a warm bath (did not enjoy), and ordered some silk worms to loosen things up. He ate 5 yesterday, and 5 today.

For the past 3 days he has take 3 smaaaaaal poopsa day, each about a 1/4 or what he would usually poop a day, but his belly is still big, he is still roaming and flaring colors. There has been white urine around the poops too, very little.

Finally, I just want to be sure he is indeed a he, and not a gravid she. Please see pictures.

a male will have little bumps on the backs of his feet, ( spurs ) a female will not!!! i cant quite see from the pics but it looks like u may have a female there..

Do you have a place for her to dig to lay eggs in the cage?? If not I would put one in there ASAP! (Minimum 12" deep x 12" x 8" ...almost full of washed playsand.)

Hm.. I don't see anything on the backs of his feet... Or her lol :) I will look for examples online and compare.

Front feet too?

There is a pothos plant with plenty of loose organic dirt exposed. Does that work?

nope just the back feet u would see them, im almost 100% you got a female, as kinyonga said you will need to get her a laying bin i will go find a blog done by Jann another member and post it here for you. 1 sec
hoj

here it is https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/jannb/345-egg-laying-laying-bin.html

you need to do this asap egg binding can cause serious issues including death

Crap.

Ok my better half is running to home depot to grab play sand and a container. Just to double check: i need a very deep (12 inches) container and fill it up almost completely with sand?

All the pictures I have seen online have about 2 inches of sand on the bottom. Which way is correct?

Should I keep feeding a bunch? I have been holding back because i was sure HE is constipated.

And how can I tell if SHE is already egg bound? Should I take here to the vet?

you want about 12 inches of sand so she can dig.. there may be some change you will want to make to your husbandry, with alot of food and high temp females will generally have larger clutches witch is hard on them, but feeding less and having lower temp you can reduce the ammount of eggs she will have. i am not expert on this but i would keep her fed and well hydrated and once she starts digging let her be she wont want to be watched and when she is done she will need to be well fed and very well hydrated. maybe send Jann a pm im sure she can get you on the right track

Toto is a girl...do what Kinyonga said with the play sand and container and read the blog that Hoj posted from Jann.

Good luck and ask lots of questions if you need to. She is a very pretty girl :)

female 100% at least the name toto can go both ways

lol THANK YOU!

Well yeah, but i recently found out there was a famous evil haitian tyrant named Toto, so this may be a great opportunity to rename :)

Gonnah go play with sand...

id call her Leez as is lee's chameleon haha assuming your name is lee from your screen name

Yes females can start producing infertile clutches of eggs. To help control that you feed a controlled diet and keep temps a cpl of degrees cooler. You only need to feed an adult female 8-10 feeders every other day. Keep her basking temps in the mid 80's. I wouldnt cut back on her feeding schedule until after she's laid and recovered though. Make sure she's getting plenty of water and plain calcium while she's gravid to help with the egg production.

layin bin looks good just a fyi the cat will stress the shiznit outta your cham and may prevent her from feeling comfortable enought to lay
