which is the perfect basking temp for veiled?
i try 90-100 F and he's opening his mouth.
85 seems a bit low..
sometimes he would go real close to the bulb (hanging upside down).
(i don't want his toe get burnt)

I've never really tested my temps but I'm sure that they're don't get as high as 100 deg. However my chams occasionally open their mouths as well. I think that as long as they can climb down to get away from the heat they will be fine. You can always but your hand under the light for a minute or so to see if it burns your hand to test it out.

lol.. not exactly a test that i want to try.
I don't want my cham to get burned.. but i don't want my hand to get burned too:D

closer to 90 is best, and as dave said, give him a gradient, so he can get away from the basking temp. Sometimes chams will gape when they are hot to release heat, and they will sometimes do this instead of just moving to a cooler spot.

Well I didn't mean leave it there until you get blisters or anything! LOLOL

But if it's extremely hot for your hand then it's probably too hot for your cham!

our basking spots in both viv s are 95f and the other end is 85f , ours gape sometimes but it seems to be lazyness when they dont want to move away , other times they bask for a length of time then go to another part of the viv thats cooler for an hour or so then back up to bask again :p
