I have only had my panther for about a day now everything has been going alright I guess, but after I sprayed him down today with warm water (this isn't his first bath, I did use warm water and also his mouth was closed the whole time) and during the spray I noticed he kept moving his tongue inside his mouth or it looked like he kept swallowing and then after I stopped, he moved over to his basking spot and stood up tall and starting coughing and breathing real heavy for about 5 minutes. Why would he have done that?

Sounds like he may have aspirated slightly. Have you noticed any noises while he breathes or extra thick saliva in his mouth. Chameleons aren't the greatest swallowers to begin with, so they may lift their head to aid the action. But coughing and heavy breathing makes me think that he may have aspirated or he has a URI.
