Cricket Questions

So I've had me breeder crickets and all is going okay but I just have some questions.
1. I'm loosing about 5 crix a day, is this normal? how do I know how they died?
2. Almost all of the crix I'm loosing are males, most of my molting crix (2-4 a day) are females. Is this a normal demographic?
3. When I put the dirt bin in to have the females lay, how long does it need to stay in there?

There is so much to learn that I just want to learn as much as I can. I just want to be doing the right thing. I'm glad that I'm starting to breed them because the price of crix went up again! Petsmart- $3.99 for 25 DDD: Local store 15 for $1, used to be 20 for the dollar.

Its likely your losing them do to lack of air flow/ventilation. Cut some holes in each side at the bottom and hot glue some screen on them.

And since you are not trying to breed TONS of cricket only leave it in there about a week, then set them up to hatch. :)

the way i do it is when i get a shippment of crickets.. say 1000 i put dirt in there.. then once im done feeding the crickets off they have laid thousands of eggs.. incubate the dirt or keep in high 80s and bingo!

So the hole in the top is not enough?? I have a huge section with screen in the top. And I've actually decided that I will be selling some of the crickets off to offset the cost. Have some friends with toads and a scorpion that were glad to hear that I'll have the lowest price in town.

I've found yes the males tend to die off before the females once they start reaching old age
Also here's my thread on how I bred mine

Thank you for that, that will come greatly in handy. My first male died today, I have another that molted like 2 days ago, when about will I be hearing his chirps?

Unfortunately Geordi's at the 1/4 inch size so feeding off my big breeders isn't an option. So the breed until death option is the only real option.
