crickets vs fruitflies

Hello. I was wondering if anyone else has trouble getting the baby chameleons to eat crickets over fruitflies. This is driving me crazy as they have plenty of size to eat atleast 1/4 inch crickets. Do most chameleons prefer flies over crickets if given a chance? Should I not do fruitflies in the future? Any suggestions would be helpful. P.s. they are baby veileds. Thanks

Baby chameleons

We start our baby veiled chameleons out on 1/4" crix. If the babies are closing their eyes or shying away from the 1/4" crix try some 1/8". We give our baby panthers a mix of 1/8" crix and fruit flies. I personally have never tried fruit flies for baby veileds.

Sometimes when you gave baby chams too many food items at the same time, they become overwhelmed and confused. Especially over new feeders they have never seen be4.
try introducing the crix in limited number first and see if they muster enough courage to sample the new stuff :)

I have been using fruit flies and pinhead crickets for my daughters baby panthers that I'm keeping. They like both!

I do the same as Chameleon Nation does. What type of baby chameleon do you have and how old is your baby?
Chameleons by nature love anything flying around in the cage. If your baby is big enough, it needs to be weaned off the fruit flies and on to crickets.

Sometimes its best to start with smaller prey items for your baby chams, either FFs or pinhead crickets. Many chams will also respond to more vigorous and agile prey item too.

My first clutch of panthers refused FF but accepted crix like no ones business. I bout 6 cultures for the little bugers and they just wasted away:mad:. I havent tried them since.

I used both fruit flies (two types) and pin heads and I dont think there was any difference in preference between the two. Try offering fewer at once and make sure they are small enough - the same size as large fruit flies
