Cup drinking

So I got this video while I was gone for the weekend that my roommate recorded of my cham. I guess he went to go observe him when he was on his free range and had a cup of water in his hand and my little guy just ran up to him and began investigating the glass. The video it's the greatest haha I have never really seen any videos like it before.

Is this okay? He seems quite fond of this new behavior and almost prefers to drink this way. I obviously haven't been keeping the cup in his enclosure and have toned down the size to a shot glass but I basically have just been sticking it in there after his mistings and he usually runs right up drinks and goes about his business.

omg that is so cute!. I don't see anything wrong with it if that is the way he prefers to drink. That is very unusual for them to drink like that.

Wow, can't see I've ever seen that, but if you are just putting the cup in there after mistings and then removing it after he's done drinking, I don't see the harm. As long as it's not sitting there collecting bacteria I say your guy has a cool new party trick :D

That is so cool! I love how he looks up at the end like he's saying "Thanks for the drink!" Too cute! :)

That was cute!
never seen a cham do that.

Like everyone said, if you put it in and take it out when hes done.. it wont cause any harm, just dont leave it in there for extended periods of time.

That's cute! When I first got my first chameleons, a Jackson's, the way I had a dripper set up was that it dripped into a shallow dish, and then it overflowed into a bamboo rod, collected in another shallow dish further down the cage and then that overflowed out through drainage. The water was always moving and it was fresh daily, so I was never concerned about it, but at any rate, the Jackson's was the same way. He'd run over, dunk his head in, and drink away. He was a high water-lover so it suited him. Soon after I just switched to doing 20 minute mistings and that was easier to keep up with.

:) Loved the video. Thank you for sharing. Just goes to show you how good they are at adapting to their surrounds, also.:)

Thanks everybody, I'm blushing for my little guy. But if I could keep the water moving I shouldn't have a problem with anything. If he enjoys this I wanna try to accommodate him so he can drink freely instead of when I hold the cup for him. I like that drainage idea setting up a tier system to allow the water to flow to a final destination outside of the enclosure.

Very neat! Kind of dispels the notion that chams won't/don't drink from standing water! I enjoyed the vid! :)

hahaha does this remind anyone of drinking out of cups. the video on youtube? with the gecko, its a shame it wasnt a chameleon that would be so appropriate.

i highly recommend going and searching "drinking out of cups" but its very explicit so if youre prone to being offended by that stuff dont search.

apparently its audio of some guy that took an excessive amount of psychedelics locked himself in a closet and recorded it.
