I would like to find an old curio or china cabinet big enough for a chameleon take the glass out and screen it in for a chameleon. I perfer a curio due to it would give it more room height just not sure about how the other dimensions would be. I want my chameleon cage to be a beautiful piece of furniture not just a cage.

So my question to everyone has anyone else did this and how did it turn out? Any suggestions on waterproofing it safely? Please post pics....

thanks Amy

I've seen a couple of people on this forum convert old furniture into cham enclosures. You would just have to waterproof the surfaces.

It’s better to buy from funiturehoo.com. There you can find a wide variety of branded furniture at descent price and they offer delivery as well.

I've been working on a furniture re-purpose for some time now. Curio cabinets were one of my potential starting points, and although you would need to tear it up to provide adequate ventilation, the semi-circle look would make a great display imho.

craigslist turned up a ton of pieces for me.

I love it

when you gonna drop it off? lol

Great Job I am leaning now towards disassembling my entertainment center and making it a chameleon home. Ben would look so pretty it in.

Funny that you should post this as I had been wanting to do the exact same thing for my little girl who is just 1 years old - she needed some verticle space and I thought a curio cabinet would be perfect. However I also have a 4 year old male and decided I wanted something bigger and new for him as well. My hubby made me some cages that fit in really well with our open concept house and match our dining room furniture, which is where they are located. I just posted a thread of his finished project! But yes, I like the idea of having enclosures that don't look like enclosures and if you have only 1 cham, then its a perfect idea. Good luck!

ps: check Craigslist for listings of cabinets in your area. You can find some nice stuff at a good price and it doesn't hurt so much when you cut it up!

My husband converted a china cabinet into our chameleons new home. he cut holes at the top for the lights the humidifier dripper and the mister. he also sprayed the walls with a water proofing spray, covered the walls with shower walls. took out all the glass put in mesh plus two plexy glass windows. he also installed a small computer fan to help with the air circulation. Its not cheap or easy to do. We have had to do a lot of changes (before we put her in there) like drilling holes at the bottom for the water to drain out. he also made the crickets a cool space under the cabinet with ventilation and storage. I would love to post pics put i am new here so im still figuring things out
