Day 8 and still no power

Hi folks,

Welcome to Sheepshead bay Brooklyn, NY.
Sandy did a great job of destroying my hood. Most have electric by now. Yet the city is still quiet due to only a few trains running. Buses are almost back to normal. My local grocery that I work for just opened today, but we still have nothing perishable yet.
7 days it took to clean up my store. My back hurts, so does my knee. Let's also not forget that I broke my toe on the 2nd night of the black out.
I finally got hot water this morning.

Enjoy the view...

My chams are fine. I wake them up and give them about 2 hours each of (flash) light and food/water per day.

Me I'm ok. Just cold and tired. 6 days of cleaning a grocery store from flood damage will do that to you.

I'll be back once I can charge my phone again.

Absolutely stunning photos. Glad to hear you're alright but very sorry you're all having to go through this. :(

Those photos are stunning, the devastation is horrific. I'm in Lower Westchester and the majority of homes in our village are still without power. Glad your scaly guys are okay, happy to offer help if there's anything I can do.

how horrible!!! i can somewhat imagine what you are going through... in July of 2003, here in Memphis, we had what was refereed to as "Hurricane Elvis", winds in excess of 100 mph caused power outages throughout the city for up to 2 weeks, temps in excess of 90 degrees, it was just miserable for many...
take care!!!! we are all praying for y'all!!!

Harry, Glad to hear that you and your chams are ok. Thank you for sharing your first hand photos of the devastation there. I hope you get your power back soon and get you life back together.

Harry, glad you are ok and the chams too and I hope you get power soon. I went without power for three weeks after one of the hurricanes. It is not fun and I did not have my chameleons then and even so I live in Fla and have the sunshine to put them out in so I cannot imagine having to use a flashlight. Hope things return to some normalcy soon for you.

Some more just for fun....

Thanks all for the kind words.
The chams and I will try to stay warm by boiling pots of water. I could use a hot shower bad. It's 55 degrees and its cold here.

Had s hot meal at the diner yesterday...
This is how we keep things cold.
Pickles on ice.

Harry I remember taking cold showers for three weeks, but it was 90 degrees here in Florida and it still sucked. I wish I could send some sunshine and warmth your way. Hang in there!!!!

Harry, I think it is time to pack up and get the **** out of dodge. What was that you said about Kentucky? Looking good right now. Stay warm and safe.

My dad still complains about the cold showers he had to take after sneaking back into NOLA after Katrina (military was forced to evac for good reason, but he wanted to make sure his house wasnt looted)

Hope they flip the switch sooner rather then later!

I hate to laugh, but there is a big difference between taking a cold shower in 90F Florida, and my 48F New York.

Time to run home from work and boil some more water. My walls are dripping wet, but my room temps are about 68F.

7 more days they say till I get electric. Oh well.

Wow. Makes me realize what an ungrateful, spoiled brat I have been for complaining that my feeder delivery was late. I'm so sorry. If anyone can come out of this a better person, it's a New Yorker!

Good point, but it was New Orleans. Not trying to say who had it harder, but Katrina in NO was no joke. Was just trying to say you aren't alone in your plight.

Good luck.

Damn good luck on getting it back soon I know what it's like out there I'm on Long Island not far from Freeport at they got it bad over there.. I got my power back on Sunday and now it's out again from the snow storm! There's no winning with this weather!
