I just cut 3 eggs out of a dead female pygmy (brev.). She died this morning. I really did not know for sure that she was gravid until I cut the eggs out. The eggs were large, and I am thinking that she was eggbound. I will try to incubate the eggs and see what happens. They seem firm, but more yellow than my Veiled eggs. Does anyone have pictures of newly laid pygmy eggs that I can compare mine with? She had plenty of moist substrate to dig and lay eggs. RIP poor girl pygmelion.
I doubt that any image will help you given that different clutches
usually have different looks to them.
the only thing you can to is to incubate them and keep the fingers crossed.
I myself, have a clutch of eggs from a new (first time) female that I had to cut out.
Yes it make be both sad and angry... I'm hoping that the male was able to get everything well seeded.
I've got everything in incubation right now.
the eggs are a bit smaller than normal - perhaps infertile.
There's no way of knowing until they decay or I can see embryonic development.
Sorry to hear about your loss, Julirs. Boy, this isn't for the faint of heart, is it? We have 6 pygmys, and I am interested in seeing what response you get to your questions. There aren't a whole lot of posts about the pygmy eggs.
The eggs look good. Not for the faint of heart for sure. I couldn't leave eggs that might hatch in her. My Biology degree always seems to have some usefullness-all that dissecting and anatomy came in handy.
Good job Juli! Just incubate them like normal. They may continue to grow and get whiter with time. I've had that happen with a female Panther's eggs that had to be removed after she died. They will probably mold within a month if not fertile or not far enough along.
