Difference between a T8 and a T5 hood

Hi all.

Can someone explain in layman terms what exactly is the difference between a T8 and a T5 hood?

I THOUGHT were had a ReptiSun T5 hood but I guess it was a Zilla T8 hood (don't ask. Been one of those months). Can someone explain the difference to me? Is a T8 bad for our veiled Chameleon? We already are dealing with him not drinking as much as he should and possibly eye problems (he woke up this morning but both eyes were closed. He was rotating them after we misted him though), I don't want to add MORE to that list!

No. t5 is just the newer version u can use Ur t8 if you want to.
But the t5 is less big and has better efficiency

The T8 diameter is larger than a T5. Generally the T5 that many will talk about are High Output (cannot be interchanged with T8's) and are much brighter and more efficient. Some of these bulbs will last longer than others and will not need to be changed out as often.

If you have a T8 fixture, it is not "bad" for your chameleon, but you should be using at least a 5.0 UVB bulb and change it out every 6 months. You could even consider a 10.0 UVB if you have a densely planted enclosure. I think the Zilla fixture comes with a "Tropical" 25 micro-watt bulb. (If that is what you have, in my opinion it is garbage for chameleon enclosures.) You will want to get perhaps a Reptisun T8 5.0 (if it will fit your hood) and still make sure to change it every 6 months.

If you are looking for a great fixture, the T5 High Output from Tropic Blaze is a great choice. I like the one that contains two T5 bulbs, one 6% Arcadia for UVB (only needs changing every year) and one T5 6500k bulb. Arcadia T5's are the best (in my opinion) bulbs out there.

I am not meaning to highjack here, I was looking to get these new fixtures and was wondering the most reasonable price to find them. I heard about 100 bucks can get you a full setup and I was wondering where I might find a deal like that?
